Q: Can these be cut down to fit a smaller pan?

NO! Do not cut silicone baking mats as they have a fiberglass filler and cutting them exposed the fiberglass and creates a potential for contaminating good with fiberglass.

Q: The heavy duty half sheet pans i bought are 12x16. Why do most silicone mats that say they are for half sheet pans measure 16 1/2 inches instead of 16

My standard half sheet pans measure 13x18 outer edge to outer edge....on the bottom inside they measure 16-1/2 x 12-1/2 and these mats fit perfectly.

Due to your question I researched what the difference is between food grade and non food grade silica. I found a few test recommendations to determine the difference and these mats passed all of the tests I did for being food grade silica. Hope that helps.

Q: Can you cook bacon in the oven on this? Do you use paper towel?

We only use them for baking cookies. I would check with the people who manufacture the product to see if you can cook bacon on the pad
