The Bare Bones Camera Course for Film and Video Kindle Edition

Seems like a good quick read for 1 who doesn’t know fundamentals Of lighting and framing stuff. It has cute lil drawings but they’re good. Especially when many are self taught. Some “rules” are good, but it cranks out the cookie cutter art. Sometimes the newbies break the rules better because they don’t know them yet. But, there are so many badly filmed YouTube videos, I feel like many could benefit. If you’ve been doing this for years, this may not be the book for you. But, it can’t hurt

I order these all the time for students who are "interested" in photography of camera work. It's the best intro book possible and a great way for people to get to know the basics without being overwhelmed. Also a great way to weed out who really wants to learn or not.

Seriously amazing book! Finished in two days and I hate reading, so that says a lot about this book!Easy to understand and has diagrams and drawings!Seriously a must have!

I've read Tom's 2nd edition on typewritten paper back when I was in highschool! Fast forward to 2016 when I saw this third edition I immediately bought it as a memorabilia and at the same time read it from cover to cover. What a wonderful book! The content remains true to its mission and vision -- to teach and remind every good cameraman/producer the essence of usable and appropriate video content creation. Tom has the ability to teach anyone interested in videography / video production even by reading the book alone for a start -- For those who has no prior experience in good camera work and video content, this book is highly recommended!!!

It had some useful information but I expected more information about how to adjust the settings on the camera to take the perfect shot without doing a lot of editing on the photo. It gave information about lighting and positioning but I was expecting more about the camera itself.

This book is just what I was looking for. Lays filmmaking out in simple, easy to understand terms with plenty of illustrations. Light on the jargon. Anyone can pick up this book and greatly improve their camerawork.

This is one of the better instructional books I have purchased as between text and illustrations it's easy to see exactly what the author is trying to tell you. This isn't going to make you an award winning director but you will be the hero of your job/family/church/sports team if they pull the "you have a nice camera can you" card.

This may be called "The Bare Bones Camera Course..." but I feel somewhat knowledgeable after reading it - certainly more than I knew before reading it. I can actually start a conversation with a truly knowledgeable person now so that I can learn from them. Remember, the camera is like a paintbrush and through it's settings we strive toward our own artistic expression. Art isn't in the paint or the brushes, it is in the artist. But, if your creative endeavors involve capturing either still or moving images, a book like this can help broaden your pallet.

Great book for introduction in photography and videography. It had some very important tips and tricks that I will be using for my drone footage. Well worth the purchase and gift.
