I miss hominy grits!
Growing up, all the grits we had were made from hominy. No more. I believe hominy grits are scarcer than hen's teeth. The only grits I've found, no matter what the source (even Amazon, who has EVERYTHING) are just plain, ground corn. So, I decided that there had to be a way to get hominy grits and ended up with a bag of this dried hominy. I have a little hand coffee grinder that I loaded with enough to make a serving and started cranking. When I was finished I prepared them as usual and just WOW! Taste and texture as I remember! Now I need more because I need to make a batch of shrimp and grits.

Made corn nuts
Good overall quality, but a little stale. Worked great for air fried corn nuts.

So different but so good!
It’s easy to cook. It’s very firm and someone might confuse it with not being cooked but it is cooked. I make pozole soup (red or green) with this white hominy and my husband and family absolutely love it. Not going back to canned stuff if I can help it. It’s not at all like the canned hominy so be prepared.😋 It didn’t come with cooking instructions so I looked it up on the internet and used my best judgment. Instructions are just a guide any ways so no big deal.

Worried about freshness. Smells stale and old. Cooking it now and will update with results.Recap. Cooked up as needed. Once onion and garlic were added the aroma and taste improved a lot. But freshness is still suspect.

Definitely would buy again!
This was so much better than using canned in my posole. Sure, it took a little more planning but it was worth it. I am so glad I tried it.

Had to throw it out because it's too hard for homemade corn nuts.
I found a recipe for homemade corn nuts online, but when made with this brand of hard corn (and yes, I did soak it overnight before drying them), the toasted corn was TOO hard and would nearly break my teeth if I tried to crunch on them.

Best I have found
Love the large kernels and pay a little more for this brand! It’s worth it!
