Make my own energy drink/gel
I love this stuff.I make my own energy drink/gel for long races, far cheaper than any of the branded energy drink powders and you can add any flavour you want. If you look at the ingredients of most energy powders then you are likely to find maltodextrin as pretty high up the list, plus normally a few salts and trace elements.I normally make this up about 50g per 500ml of water which works out as about 190 calories in 500ml of water. Even with 50g per 500ml it's not too sweet and nowhere near as sweet as anything like Powerade or or Lucozade Sport. I add an electrolyte tablet, normally either Nuun of SIS for flavour as much as anything else and you have an energy drink for a few pence per bottle instead of a lot more!

Great to add to shakes for recovery drinks post training or for endurance training drinks
For long distance cycling and needing calories and carbs, this blends very well to make a small concentrated energy/electrolyte drink. Also have a hard gym or cycle training session where carbohydrates are essential for recovery, adding to a protein shake works great. As I mix it with other items for my drinks, I dont know what flavour it has if any.

Homebrew Beer Enhancer
Maltodextrin seems to be featured a lot in commercial Beer Enhancers by Coopers.Their BE1 is 40% Maltodextrin and 60% Dextrose.Their BE2 (which they reccomend the most to go with their kits) is 50% Dextrose, 25% Maltodextrin and 25% Dry Malt Extract.Maltodextrin is supposed to be unfermentable by yeast and thus should add thickness, mouthfeel and body to beer, without changing flavour.Since Coopers Beer enhancers are rather pricey here in the UK I have opted to make my own by putting together maltodextrin, dextrose and dry malt and still make it value for money.Keep brewing guys
