Bought this in 2007, and have used it every single day since I got them. I grew up in a home where we only used our nice stuff on very special occasions. I wanted to my everyday items to be "nice", and durable. I was so pleased when I got these, they looked better than the picture, and I loved the weight in my hands. IMO the design fits both modern, traditional or rustic tastes. I loved them so much I bought a second set as a spare. HOWEVER, 8 years later it is still unopened, because my first set set still looks great!! And I just put them in the dishwasher, no special handing. I've left them soaking in unwashed dishes overnight (Don't judge me! LOL). The handles actually still look unchanged. On rare occasions I might see a small dot of rust on one of them, but I can scrape it off with my nail. The polished parts show some light scuffing, so they don't look NEW, but still very good. I've gotten so many compliments on them over the years. They are very sturdy, in 8 years I've used them with every kind of food. Our kids have been using the smaller ones, while we use the big ones. The "smaller" spoons aren't really teaspoon size, I could use them as regular spoons. While writing up this review I notice that there are "minispoons" available which are more the real teaspoon sizes, I am planning to get them now!

I have been looking for quite some time for quality flatware. The weight and grip of the utensils are perfect. They are not thin, short or too flimsy, and the shape of the fork tines, and shape of the spoons are perfect. It was important for me to get a good quality set that features higher-grade steel (such as 18/10), which contains more nickel and chromium for enhanced shine and longevity. I have had this set for some time. I have washed the utensils, and they have maintained their appearance and performance after repeated washing, resisting bending and corrosion. Overall, the price of this set is fair. I am very satisfied and would highly recommend this set to anyone!

I bought the original set years ago from Bed Bath and Beyond. Ordered replacements from Amazon twice. Love them. They're a bit on the rustic side (vs. more traditional formal flatware) but very nice and over the years, not one has rusted.

I’ve had this set for many years and they are still beautiful. Glad I could still add to my collection.

We had seen this same set in a high end store in Montana. My wife and I both liked them but they were pretty pricey. When we got home I found the same ones on Amazon for less so I ordered several sets to replace our old silverware set and also ordered a serving set. They arrived within a couple days. They are very attractive and sturdy. The color is great and matches our home décor which is slightly rustic. Some of the reviews have complained about rust specks. This is normal for any new silverware; it is a result of fine residue from the stamping/polishing process and we had a couple pieces show this the first couple times they were washed but are fine now and show no signs. We have washed them every time in the dishwasher with no problems. These are very attractive and very sturdy silverware. I expect them to be the last set we will ever buy.

I fell in love with this pattern when I first saw it at my local Bed, Bath & Beyond store several years ago. I adore the rustic charm and soft contemporary look of the textured black matte finish. The balance, hand and mouth feel of this exquisitely designed flatware cannot be overstated. I have no problem with the slightly larger bowl size of the teaspoon - they're not freakishly big, just a little larger than usual. I bought three 20-piece place settings to make a service of twelve, then added four more teaspoons because it seems I always need more of those, and there are often a half dozen sitting dirty in my dishwasher. My Avalon stainless has been through countless dishwasher cycles so far, and I've never seen a single spot of rust or residue - not one - it comes out looking like new. Many kinds of metal, including stainless, can develop rust spots in the dishwasher, but it has less to do with the stainless itself, than the local water quality. The chlorine and mineral content of your local water supply, especially high iron content, is the major cause of rusting (and other things) in the dishwasher. Fortunately, there's an easy solution to the problem - I use Finish Jet-Dry Rinse Agent, Liquid, 16 Ounce , a dishwasher rinse agent, and never have a problem with rust or residue. The textured black matte finish does not require any special care. I see no reason to wash them by hand to "protect" this finish when the manufacturer doesn't say it's required, specifically states they're dishwasher safe, and backs it up with a 50-year warranty. My only regret is that I waited so long to buy this gorgeous flatware.

These are absolutely beautiful. I bought the Gourmet Settings Avalon mini spoons, cocktail forks, butter spreaders, and 5-piece hostess set to complement my retired GS silverware (style name unknown, purchased over 15 years ago). It’s a perfect way to mix it up - same design but slightly different. The mini spoons are great for desserts. Note: the butter spreaders and the spreader in the hostess set are NOT the same size. The one included in the hostess set is slightly larger.

The knives were dull, they hadn’t put an edge on. Quite useless.
