Would this tape stick to paper? What about various book covers?

It would, but you could probably remove it pretty easily

If you have used this on xlr cables specifically, how does this last over time on xlr cables? does it peal off or make a sticky mess of the cables?

We have used this on mics and other cables. It sticks well and peels pretty clean.. There might be a little residue, but not much. We live in Texas so it gets so blooming hot and sticky that its a miracle this tape sticks, but so far, so good.
