Q: My current 2015 key fob has the key inside the case. Only the plastic is broken soCan I still use this case by switching out the internal electronics?

If it's the same as I bought for 2016 HRV, blank shaft is non-removable. After switching out electronics still need to have shaft cut. I also replaced battery while I had it open. Getting it lined up for electronics to work properly took a little doing and finding a locksmith to cut it also took a little looking up. Overall cost was about 80 for working new key. I think about 1/2 what I was quoted from dealer so a good savings.

The key is part of the case, it has to be cut. no way to attach your key blade to this case.

Q: Will this key start car after it’s cut? Without circuit board? Want it for backup.

For the 2016 I believe it does. I will have to try my old key with electronics removed to see...but I think so. When the battery died I had to use the key to lock and unlock and start it just like older cars.

I just transfered electronics from old key to new one then had key made. It was cost of the shell plus cost of cutting the key which was harder to find a place to do it than you may expect. About $78 ttl. Cost compared to $150 from dealer. Getting electronics aligned inside properly was not easy either so it worked correctly. A lot of horn honking to get buttons doing the correct thing. Over all it works great now... but for the work I put in, I would most likely just pay dealership for new one next time. I bought a new battery too so another $8 tacked on. If you are a dIY guy or gal...it was an adventure but fun and love the key now. Inside is a small circuit board and soft key overlay that need to be aligned just so. I thought I could just remove the slug shaft and replace with the old one but it is solid and must be cut. Can not be removed...it is all one piece with plastic.
