Useful backup power supply
I bouight this power supply to backup my GPS on long motorcycle rides. It comes as you see described here. It does not need it's own charger. It recharges itself using the USB port on the computer. There is a light in a corner that changes from red to green when it is fully charged. It has a power on/off switch. It is very light in weight. The supplied cable might allow you to adapt it to many devices and if not, I would assume you can find the specific adapter you need. I also have another device by Gomadic that allows me to use ordinary alkaline batteries to backup my devices. However, it only gives 1000 maH while this should give 10,000. We'll see. The Gomadic people also have exchangable power tips and the company is very customer oriented.

does not live up to power capacity claims
It is a simple, effective device for a reasonable price. But when I unpackaged it, it was way too small and light to possibly supply 10,000mAh of power. So I tested it by having it power a flashlight bulb drawing 300ma (measured using tester). It lasted less than 5 hours, where the specs suggest it should last 33 hrs.So, in reality if only supplies around 1,500 mAh, about the equivalent of one iPhone charge. Keep that in mind.

Bought as a requested gift
I don't have too much to say because the person asked for this product specifically as his gift. Seems to be handy but I cannot provide an opinion.

External Power
I have this external battery pack and use it for work ALL THE TIME. I drive a pedicab and use the battery pack to power the speakers in order to play music.Needless to say, the speakers wont last the 30 or 40 some odd hours that they claim but it does last. I can run the speakers during my weekend shifts without a charge. That is about 20 hours if I go out on Sunday. I do run the pack continuously too. Normally a 6 hour block.I do charge the device twice a week. Once Monday to recharge after the weekend and once Friday Morning to recharge the Tues-Thurs usage. The second charge is cautionary, I have actually ridden a full week without charging and received 20+ hours of usage.Other items I have powered using this device include my phone and IPOD. Basically anything that can be charged by USB can be charged by this item. Likewise, any USB can charge this item. I have even charged it using the port on a PS2.Hope this helps.
