does the 15cm refer to the blade or the overall size?

Hi, This refers to the blade length. I’d say it’s what I would call a cooks knife. I hate trying to work with a full size kitchen knife, this for me is just the right size and length, but more importantly weight and balance, though everyone’s opinion on this is different. The next size down is larger than a paring knife, and the next size up is a full size kitchen knife. I hope this helps.

Would this knife cut through hard items like swede and pineapple

I wouldn't use mine for that, swede probably wouldn't be able to get through and pineapple it would cut but it's not the best knife for it.

What's the purpose of the fluted edge, is it as I presume to stop the segments of what you're cutting sticking to the knife? If so does it work well?
