Completely Removed Mark
Black rubber mark on front bumper probably from another car that swiped my car in a parking lot. Big black mark on a white car doesn't look good. ARBRO Rubbing Compound removed the mark in less than 5 minutes.

A good product, with some buts.
CONCLUSIONS: Highly, but not 100% recommended. My reservation is that I found that it did put some light scratches on highly polished paint and that it would change the reflectivity of textured paint. I don't consider these flaws in the product, but a limitation inherent in using an abrasive product on paint or bare metal. Understand that it works by removing paint to decrease the surface distance between the bottom of the scratch and the surface level of the paint. when the paint removal reaches the depth of the scratch, the scratch is gone. Deeper scratches will be less noticeable because the shadow is lessened. It's a very versatile product, usable on more than paint to clean and to polish on a low level. For a mirror polish, a much finer abrasive polish is needed. All in all, I'm happy that I ordered this product.TESTING: The compound has the consistency of yogurt and applies easily. It feels very creamy when rubbed between the fingers, with the feel of a 300 to 400 grit sandpaper abrasive level. Wring your application cloth well. An overly wet application cloth will dilute it to an unworkable liquid. As suggested by another reviewer, a spray bottle of water kept nearby will prevent dry out. I first tested on a painted metal bar with light scratches. It worked very well although the paint removal resulted in flattening some of the "orange peel" texture to the point where the difference between the original paint and repair was noticeable, but not ruinous in appearance. I then tried using it to clean a smooth painted piece of metal. It took off all the rust and dirt. The dirt probably caused some scratching, but after I cleaned another section before applying more compound, I still found light scratching on the paint. Finally, i tried it on what was a smooth metal pan. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the abrasive removed rust from a lightly pitted rusted section. Again, however, I found that it left some light scratching in the metal. The light scratching on all these surfaces may have been the result of my technique, as I used only manual methods and did not try machine polishing. Even so, I would not use this unless I'm dealing with oxidized paint or other surface that has already suffered damage to it's gloss finish.

Good compound for cleaning up aluminum boxes
I have a new flatbed truck camper where i installed 5 aluminum boxes to increase the storage for camping and boating trips. The boxes are constructed of flat aluminum (not diamond plate) and over time they oxidize and stain. I obtained this polishing compound to clean up the aluminum and it did a good job. Since this contains abrasives i know NOT to use for clear-coated auto paint.

Does what it's supposed to do
There are two versions of the Abro compound available, polishing and rubbing. I went with the former because I already have a bottle of 1500 grit automotive compound I can use if there's something that requires a little more effort to get out. I haven't used this product on painted metal yet, but I have on plastic and Lexan. My pickup truck has a body-colored plastic cap on the back of the mirror. I got a little too close to a white support pole one time and it left a streak, highly visible on a steel grey truck. I didn't use my dual action (DA) buffer because I wasn't sure how the painted plastic would fare, so I grabbed an old school cotton-over-sponge wax applicator and slathered on some of the Abro polishing compound. I worked it for about a minute, wiped off the excess and checked my progress. Roughly half of the mark was already gone. I repeated that process two more times and it was completely gone. It left behind a nice finish too, so much so that my OCD made me do the other mirror to balance it out.The Lexan cover used to protect headlights on many vehicles today can turn yellow with age, making the lights much less effective. This time I used my DA, but started with the 1500 grit automotive compound. That takes away the bulk, but does need at least one more grit level down in order to make the Lexan transparent again. With the right foam pad and correct technique the Abro polishing compound got rid of the swirls and left a smooth, semi-clear finish on the Lexan (I was working on a neighbors car and the lenses were too far gone to fully correct, even with the automotive compound, but the Abro compound did what it was supposed to do - given what it had to work with - and cleaned up the remaining scratches). The rating of 5 stars is due to the cost and performance. For $8.50 you get 10 ounces of something that does what it's supposed to, polish out fine scratches and marks.

NOT for clear coat autos?! Terrible product description!
The product description makes one think this will be perfectly fine for any type of paint correction you'd want to do for your autos. BUT, in very small print on the can, it clearly states this compound is NOT safe for clear coat autos! Most every auto on the road now that has been made in the past 20+ years has clear coat paint. MAJOR mistake for the seller of this product to not state this "no clear coat use" in the description! Maybe it would be good for cleaning glass or something else, but totally useless to me because I wanted it for my autos.
