I'm a father that is currently unable to connect with my kids (2 daughters and a son). Reading this book has given me some important insight on things they could be going through (and hope to help them with if I can reconnect). I suggest anyone who has questions about things and are from separated parents to give this book a read. Facing and healing are of utmost importance ! ! Review: A Thoughtful Read - This book offers a deep and well-researched look at how growing up without a father can shape self-esteem, relationships, and emotional well-being. One thing I appreciated was how the book doesn’t just dwell on the problem; it provides concrete strategies for moving forward. The advice on setting boundaries and recognizing unhealthy relationship patterns was especially helpful. Some of the exercises felt a little generic, but if you’re new to this kind of self-work, they’re a good starting point. I wouldn’t call this a light read—it tackles some heavy emotions—but it does so with compassion and a clear sense of purpose. If you’ve struggled with the effects of an absent father, this book can help you make sense of your experiences and start working toward a healthier, more fulfilling future. It’s not a magic fix, but it’s a solid resource for anyone ready to do the work.

A Healing Guide I Didn’t Know I Needed
Reading The Absent Father Effect on Daughters felt like someone finally understood the silent struggles I’ve carried for years. I grew up without my father in my life, and even though I always told myself I was fine, this book helped me realize how deeply that absence shaped my self-worth, trust in relationships, and ability to set boundaries. The book isn’t just informative it’s healing. It gave me the language to describe wounds I couldn’t name before and offered real steps to begin moving forward. I especially appreciated the sections on silencing the inner critic and recognizing unhealthy patterns in relationships. It felt like a personal conversation with someone who gets it. If you’ve ever felt unworthy, lost in relationships, or stuck in emotional loops that don’t make sense this book is for you. It doesn’t just help you understand the pain; it walks you through how to heal it. I feel more empowered, more self-aware, and more hopeful than I have in a long time.

Wonderfully Written
As an adult daughter of an alcoholic father, I have spent much of my life feeling unseen, unsupported, uncelebrated, unimportant, and never quite “enough.” I watched my younger brothers bask in the glory of being the “favorites,” which caused a lot of trauma mentally to me. A lot of bad decisions were made throughout my life due to the subconscious need to have codependent relationships with men who were not good people, in order to make up for the affection I did not receive from either one of my parents. I wish I would have learned about this much sooner in life, so I could have loved myself more, instead of seeking love and attention from other people. This book helped me realize a lot of things: lies I’ve told myself, love I never gave myself, confidence I never had in myself, and the self-worth I never felt until I realized (through years of therapy and re-establishing a relationship with God through Jesus Christ) that I AM WORTHY. I AM WORTHY OF IT ALL! And so are YOU! This book will help you come to these realizations, too… I highly recommend adding it to your collection. 5+ stars from me!!!

Huge shortcut in healing the father wound
This book really hit home for me. It dives deep into how both physically and emotionally absent fathers affect daughters, and I found myself relating to so much of it. I honestly wish I had this decades ago—it could have saved me from a lot of struggles and helped me understand why I was trying to fill that void in my early life. I’ve already gone through my own healing process, but this book lays out a real, structured path that would have been a huge shortcut in getting there. Some parts do get repetitive, especially when explaining the emotional impact of an absent father, but overall, it’s a powerful and insightful guide for anyone looking to work through these wounds. Definitely worth reading if this is something you’ve experienced.
