Henrietta is back!!
Fans of the Hoboken Chicken Emergency (1977 book by Daniel Pinkwater) rejoice! Henrietta has reappeared, and now she makes perfect steamed eggs. She does not weigh 266 pounds, nor does she go down playground slides, but she is cute and extremely functional. In my estimation, an egg steamer needs to include the following: a built-in pin to poke the eggs, an auto shutoff, and a chime to tell you that the eggs are done. Henrietta has all of these things and more. The pin to poke the eggs is built into the tray that holds the eggs so it can’t get lost. The handles of the egg tray and the cover are part of the tail - a nice design choice. There is a measuring cup included, and it has embossed markings that won't wear off over time (has been an issue with a cheaper model). The cup also has a poker on the bottom in case you want to use that instead of the poker in the egg tray. And, best of all, she Clucks/Crows when the eggs are done (see video)!!!!! This makes me ridiculously happy. I purchased the 14-egg model because it was available in yellow and was less expensive than the white 7-egg model - it can easily be used with 7 eggs rather than 14 by just removing the plastic sleeve and the extra tray. Only small improvement I would make would be to emboss or paint lines for different amounts of water in the reservoir so that there would not be need for a separate measuring cup (I used to have an egg cooker that had this - Zojirushi does this with their rice cookers). Lines for 7 eggs hard-boiled or soft-boiled would be enough. I highly recommend getting an OXO egg slicer to go with Henrietta - you’ll be wanting to make and eat a LOT of hard boiled eggs just hear her cluck.

Perfect hard boiled eggs every time and easy to peel!
Love this little clucker - though, as noted by another reviewer, it doesn't actually cluck or cheep - it beeps. Eggcellent product - does exactly what it says it will do and does a great job. I have a couple of eggs for breakfast most mornings and it's so nice to put them in Henrietta and know that they'll be perfect and I don't have to keep an eye on them or wonder if they're done. Hint: warm the eggs for a few minutes in the shell in a bowl of hot water, before using them for poached - that way the egg white will cook more quickly and you won't over-cook the yolks. I've been using Henrietta for a couple of months now and use it 3-4 times a week. Just this morning I whipped up a batch of scrambled eggs with ham and cheese. Just put the mixture evenly into the egg poaching tray, be sure to spray with cooking spray, and cook on the hardboiled egg "setting". Fantastic! I usually turn it on when I get into the shower and they're done by the time my hair is dry. Pop them into a container to take with me to work for breakfast at my desk. Still love it - still works beautifully - wouldn't cook my soft or hard boiled eggs any other way. They always come of perfect and they always come out of the shell easily.

Enjoying
I first made 4 poached eggs. You are instructed to fill water to the second "oval" on the bottom of the base. My husband likes soft poached, I like firmer poached. Even for him, the eggs were liquid. What I will do different next time: fill water to the third oval, then disconnect when it gives its alarm, and cover with a towel. It has steam holes on the top. This should keep it warm and help it to stabilize until we are ready to eat. I made 3 hard-boiled eggs. I did as instructed and filled to the third oval for hard-boiled eggs. I used the pin on the base to poke the big ends of the eggs - it doesn't leak, and cooked as instructed. Once the alarm sounded, I disconnected and then put a towel on top for a few minutes until I was ready to eat. The eggs were perfect hard boiled and in a short amount of time. I definitely like this and will use it a lot. It is simple enough my husband can use it. It is easy to clean, as always, wipe the base out with a clean towel but don't submerge. PS My cat isn't allowed on the countertop, but she had to investigate the sound. It doesn't cluck, but it makes a small alarm clock type of noise.

Cute, it works, but has some flaws
It is adorable if you like kitsch (and I do) and it's fairly solidly made. However, the so-called chirp isn't birdlike at all, and that would have been fun. It cooks eggs as advertised, and does it well, so that is the reason for the 4 stars. One nice feature is the way the well for the water is designed and labeled - it eliminates the need for a measuring cup. The poached eggs come out good, but I like using large eggs, so larger eggs take a few more seconds. I just unplug the unit and let carryover heat work. Jumbo eggs are a bit too big for the poaching unit. There's plenty of room, so it's unclear why the designers didn't make the poaching tray a bit bigger. Like most other poaching units you see, the eggs come out in a triangular shape, not ideal. That is another design decision made to save a few manufacturing pennies. Biggest flaw: no auto-off device. Would I buy another? No, not unless the Maverick made some intelligent design changes. I would try another product, even if a bit more expensive.

Eggs boiled and poached, and those boughten legally ...? Ol' Henrietta keeps on cluckin', though she never did cackle on completion. We're still buds all the same.

This is actually my second one, that’s how confident I am of this product. My first was the 7 egg cooker and was bought about 1997. The only reason I’m buying a new one is because the alarm has stopped working, but the cooker still works. Excellent product and very precise cooker just by the level of water. Also love the new alarm sound.

Purchased (2) for gifts, and both arrived in boxes that had quite obviously been previously opened. Both arrived with the handle on the poaching tray broken off. Returned for refund. On the fence if I want to give it a try again and order (2) more.

I like this item for poached eggs. It is nice because you can poach 4 eggs at at a time. This is my second Henrietta poacher the previous one quit working after 10 yrs of use.
