Product was easy to set up and works quickly.

The probe portion is very long and pretty pointy on the end, and since I would be restraining an uncooperative cat while trying to insert the thermometer, I didn't feel safe using this on my small cat. Would be fine for larger animals, even as big as a horse, I think. Also it takes 45 seconds (a long time with a clawing cat!) to register. It reads to two decimal places. I never used it on any animal and TBH have been using it myself (orally, with a probe cover) to check for Covid fevers--and it works great for that. For the small cat I ended up getting a human baby electronic thermometer, which was perfect.

Not until you open the package do you find out instant read means "25-40 seconds". I don't know about you but I cannot hold my cat down for 25 secs with a thermometer up his butt. I would have been better off purchasing the 8 second instant read thermometer from the tiny box store in town vs this slow thermometer. The description needs to clearly say it's a 25-40 second read and not instant, it's false advertising. I also thought this would be a great thermometer for my horses since it's easier to hold, but they enjoy thermometers about as much as cats, and I don't need to spend that long at my horse's rear end when they are cranky and sick.

I've always used other people's thermometers for my horse. It's been a rare occasion when I need it. I finally bought my own. This one is very simple to use and appears to be accurate. As other reviewers mentioned, the temperature is instant, but it's quick enough.
