Gets the job done!
After a forest fire through our property, the following year ground squirrels moved in the areas of downed trees and grass. They quickly found my vegetable garden. The first summer they ate everything from tomatoes, corn, cucumbers and they even climbed the apple and peach trees and ate all of the fruit. This year at the beginning of summer they went after my blueberries. They chewed their way through the very solid barrier I have created to keep the birds out. I HAD HAD ENOUGH!!! I came across this Kaput product and was very optimistic. I also ordered bait boxes so that only the ground squirrels could take the bait. It took about three weeks and approximately 10 lbs of the poison bait to get rid of the ground squirrels. I haven't seen one in about a week or two. I will continue to keep the bait boxes full just in case a few stragglers come by the garden. I am extremely happy with the results.

Garbage. Don’t waste your money
Don’t waste your money. This crap doesn’t even kill rats let alone squirrels. Pure garbage. You would just be feeding what you’re trying to kill. Freaking useless.

Very effective against Arizona ground squirrels
I will repeat what another reviewer wrote, because it exactly captures my experience. " I would say at least a month is required to really understand just how effective this stuff is. I would opt for the 25lb container next time, it goes much faster than you think."I had a major ground squirrel infestation... holes all over the place. I'd pour about half a cup down each hole, and then a week later I'd cover over the holes that were clearly no longer being used, and pour more bait down holes that were still active. It took me most of a 25-pound container to treat about a half acre of heavily-infested territory, but after about 6 weeks there were no remaining active holes.I live in southern Arizona. I figured that our ground squirrels are pretty similar to California ground squirrels, so this product should work here as well as in California. And I was right... it did. I've seen reviews that complained that it didn't work against chipmunks and so on. That is hardly surprising. Different rodents eat different things, and you shouldn't be surprised if a ground squirrel poison does nothing against chipmunks. But in my experience, this product is VERY effective against ground squirrels. One problem worth mentioning is that my 25-pound container was packaged and shipped in a lightweight cardboard box. When it arrived, the box was torn, the lid of the plastic bucket inside had come off, and little red pellets were spilling out of the package. Fortunately, not much product had been lost. I plan to order this again. Next time, I will try to communicate with the shipper in advance, telling them at least to strongly tape the cover of the plastic bucket to the bucket, and either use a stronger box or to reinforce it with a lot of packing tape.

Worked, but I had to use a lot.
I had just one California ground squirrel. The squirrel gobbled this stuff up, but it took about 12 days to exterminate it, and I used almost all of the bucket for 1 squirrel. This has only 1/2 the concentration of the active ingredient of other baits, but the higher concentration baits are illegal in CA, so I had no choice. It eliminated my problem squirrel, so I can’t complain too much.

Very effective
I hesitate to recommend this because I'd prefer the ground squirrels move out than die. However, this year we had a lot of rain in the spring and the rodent population exploded. We had four or five times the number of ground squirrels that we usually have each year, and they've been very destructive, digging up our property and under our foundation. Hadn't seen that before. We tried to smoke them out, placed audio "thumpers" to scare them away, placed different kinds of traps, but nothing worked. We put this bait out in locked boxes and within two weeks, the population was under control. We still have them on our property, but this bait eradicated them from near the house. They eat the bait and die in their burrows, so it's not poisoning other animals that might feed off their carcasses.
