A great knife!
This is one of the best knives I've ever owned. It was fairly sharp out of the box, but I gave it a sharper edge. It sharpened and has kept its edge well. For me it feels about average in weight compared to other knives I've carried. Personally, I find it easy to open one handed. It locks solid and is not difficult to close. The handle is a nice sturdy material. As far as where I live, the style and size make it very legal to carry.

Hearty blade
Great knife. I love the cleaver style. It is a meaty blade to. You can flip it open with you thumb or just flick it open. The weight of the blade with open it for you. The grip is not meant for people who work with wet or oily hands. If you are someone who likes to pry with a knife, the spine of the blade will allow you to do it. Great for opening cans of paint.

Great Knife for the price!
Love this knife. Big fan of the sheep foot/hatchet form factor. Came out the box sharp. Action is good. The thumb hole is comfortable, but the knife will open with a flick of the wrist. Good weight. I have big hands, so the size feels good in my palm. I normally use it to open packages, but it can do way more. Great Knife for the price!

Head turner!
Buy far one of my favorites. Very good quality what you would expect from Gerber. love the size got a good feel to it. Easy one hand opening. Not to heavy weight good for EDC. This is a real head turner to anyone who loves knives people are always ask me about it where I got it. I have had this for years Have cut just so many thing with it. It holds an edge and is easy to sharpen. Highly recommended getting one to add to your collection. I went with the desert tan bc I love micarta.

Great utility knife
I have two of these knives. One is a backup just in case I misplace my usual one. This is a fantastic utility knife. I carry it every day in my pants pocket. I use it for cutting non-food items (I also carry a folding steak knife). It has a very thick blade, but not too heavy. The long cutting edge is nice for most tasks and easy to sharpen. The micarta scale is much more durable than I expected. No downsides. This is a utility knife and not a combat blade. It doesn't have a drop point so common in most knives, but that's not necessary for a utility knife. It looks very menacing to most people (like a straight razor), but it is definitely not a fighting knife.

Love it
Wow, the best quality Gerber I’ve bought in 20 years. Excellent handling and balance. Fits my hand perfectly. My most favored knife purchase from Amazon!!

Flatiron is an ok knife with a sharp blade.
**Follow-up** Upgraded my opinion from mediocre knife to ok. The Flatiron action is still stiff but feels broken in. Deploying the blade using reverse flick works better but still inconsistent. Thumb flick works better and opens reliably if I add wrist motion to assist. The frame lock is still stiff but works well enough without need for as much pressure. The micarta scale on one side feels nice with good grip. Nice "fidgety" knife. Original Post I rate this Gerber Flatiron with G10 handles between 3 and 4 stars since I find it a low end, run of the mill knife. Out of the box the action was tight and wasn't smooth. The detents holding the blade closed were too tight requiring a much higher level of effort to simply open the blade. The advertisement says the blade is D2 steel but it also states 7CR17Mov and it looks like this blade material is not D2, so the lower quality steel. But at least the blade was sharp. After spending a couple of days opening and closing the blade (along with using lubrication) the blade opens marginally smoother. The frame lock requires a high level of effort to unlock the blade. I have other frame lock knives and they were much lower effort than the Flatiron. I did loosen the screws to the plate holding the lock but it didn't make any noticeable difference. Maybe I just need to strengthen my fingers and hands but none of my other knives from other companies are close to this level of effort. Will I carry put this into rotation for EDC? I'll carry and use it for a month to see if it gets any better and redeems itself. If it turns out to be a knife I love, I will update this review. Is this a high quality knife? No, I think it's Gerber's low end knife so as long as you set your expectations correctly it's fine. The weight and solid construction make it feel higher quality for what that's worth. How is the blade action? Unusually stiff out of the box and inconsistent. After opening & closing the blade over 300 times (I counted), adjusting the pivot pin and lubricating the pivot point I can sometimes deploy the blade fully using the reverse flick method. Sometimes, but mostly the blade will open between 50% - 75% of the way unless you include adding some wrist flick. I still can't fully open this using just my thumb. Yes, perhaps I just have weak hands but I have no other knife that I own (Benchmade, Kershaw, CRKT, Reate and even a Leatherman tool) that requires nearly the same level of effort to deploy the blade. What is the largest let-down of this knife? The frame lock mechanism. I have the hand strength and manual dexterity to use one hand to open and close all of my other knives but frame lock was so tight that when I was reach the amount of pressure to actually unlock the blade the slight finger pressure I had to close the blade caused it to snap shut on my thumb and cut my thumb. Ok. Lesson learned and it hasn't reoccurred. Would I purchase this knife again? No thank you. I'll keep this one to compare with any other knife I buy in the future or if a friend has questions about it. I have other Gerber knives that are good quality but nothing special. Maybe I'll need to spend $100 or more to get one of their better knives. Good luck with yours folks and I hope your experience is better than mine has been so far.
