It seems that most people purchase this product to test their soil as that is the intended use, but I got it for a different reason and it worked great. I got it to teach science experiments to some elementary school kids and they enjoyed using variety of chemicals that come within the kit to conduct some cool experiments. I cannot attest to how it would work in a real garden since it is not possible to use in the current weather, but I did test some indoor plants that I have and it did work there, so I would assume it will work outside as well.

Seems easy enough to use, looking forward to spring when the ground's unfrozen to see what my garden soil is looking like.

Note: This product sat on the shelf for a very long time. I did try it earlier on, but the results mentioned in this review happened recently. Apparently shelf life is decent, lbvs. Additional Note: This is a difficult product to review for me. I have no reference to compare against. I have used the little cheap electronic PH testers, even the 3-1 variations, but that's about it for me and testing soil... All I can say about this product is, I used it, I took into account the information I was able to gather, put it to use and got positive results. I was able to adjust soil in multiple areas specifically to the plants I have there and most of them did just fine.. Infact, this year, the only problems I had was a very short instance of blossom end rot on a single tomato plant, and FREAKING SLUGS/SNAILS!! I just could not combat the slugs and snails this year, so my kohlrabies suffered horribly, only got 2 this year. Sheesh... Tip: Beneficial Nematodes... The one thing I did not do this year and it shows... So in the end, I cannot say rather or not the product is accurate or any of the crucial details I would love to provide on a product like this. But, I can say, regardless, it did help me. The information the product gave me still gave me positive results.

As I prepare for the upcoming garden season this kit was a great choice! Very cute and clear, small enough to store easily, easy to follow instructions, quality results and worth buying!

I got a refund because of missing parts. It was missing the small scoop to complete the phosphorus test. Steps of the sample preparation are obviously written by someone that doesn't speak english or wasn't proofread. All of the labels were peeling off as well. Tells me its a cheap Chinese product.
