Buy it, it's a great keyboard.
I love this keyboard. It is very close to the Apple magic keyboard and the keys feel very similar. What really seperates it from the magic keyboard is that this one actually has a backlight and a case for the iPad when removing it which was a total failure on Apple's part. Also, this keyboard is 1/3 the price of Apple's so this was a total no brainer for me after watching many YouTube videos. It definitely has some weight to it and does not feel cheap in any way. I prefer the weight because it makes it more stable. I love that it has a magnetic flap to keep it closed and hold in your magic pen. The keyboard holds an amazing charge, I used it for about 4 days without shutting it down and it used less than 4% of the battery which is amazing. I loved the fact that I didn't feel like I had to always shut it off because it was perfectly fine to leave it powered on, it powers down on its own when not in use, you just have to tap a key to wake it back up. It also remembers your settings for the backlights color and intensity. You cannot go wrong with this keyboard.

Functional and great looking.
The case is aesthetically beautiful. The removable magnetic case is a great feature and functional. The keyboard is nice and easy to use, connects without any issues. Overall it is the perfect size for my work bag.

I would recommend. Just know what you are getting!
Overall, I'm quite satisfied with this keyboard and case. Let's address the downside first: the keyboard and case are nearly as thick and heavy as my MacBook Pro M3. I had read similar comments in other reviews, so I was aware of this before purchasing. Another minor issue is the lack of a cutout for the Apple Pencil. This means I can't put a cover on my pencil while charging it, which is a slight inconvenience but neither are deal breakers for me. On the positive side, I truly appreciate the removable case feature. This is why I chose this keyboard case. I often use my iPad without the keyboard, and it's reassuring to know it's still protected. The keyboard itself is impressive; it connected easily on the first try and has remained consistently reliable without any connectivity problems. The mouse functions smoothly, and I am particularly impressed with the keyboard's battery life, even when using the backlight feature. The magnetic connection that holds the iPad to the keyboard is strong and secure, yet detaching the iPad is effortless when necessary. I've accidentally dropped it a couple of times, and it has proven to be quite durable. This product offers excellent value for its price. While I do wish it were thinner, I prefer this setup over an Apple keyboard because of the separate protective case for my iPad. Just keep in mind that it won't be the lightest or thinnest option available!

returned magic keyboard, bought this instead, don't regret it
I got my first ipad recently (an ipad air from Costco), and I also bought the magic keyboard. I'm coming from a place of using a PC laptop, but my laptop is dying. Backlit keys are a must for me. I thought the magic keyboard had them, but alas. No longer. I also didn't like the way my Apple pencil was constantly popping off. I considered other alternatives, but the ESR won because A) I wanted to be able to type on my lap, (which you can do decently with the magic keyboard), and B) I wanted a flap or something for my Apple pencil, and C) I wanted the case to feel a bit more protective because I am not always super careful with my things. After a few weeks of using the ESR, I am not disappointed in my purchase. I was a little nervous about the bluetooth connection. Thought that was going to be a drag, but I haven't had problems with it. It does put itself to sleep, so sometimes it takes a second to wake the keyboard up, but you just hit a key, and a second later it's responding again. You must charge the keyboard separately, but it lasts a long time and also seems to recharge quickly. The backlit keys are great, which was basically my biggest deal-breaker with the magic keyboard. Typing on my lap works. Yes, the ipad is top-heavy in this case. It was also top-heavy with the magic keyboard, but I do think the ESR seems a little worse. Not a deal-breaker for me. The pencil flap: great when not using the ipad, but when you're using it, you have to open the flap, so the pencil is still just only attached by the magnet. This seems ok, though. I'm not really worried about it going flying while I'm using the ipad, it's more like when I'm not using it. I would still prefer a case with a slot for the pencil or something, not sure why that's not possible, but out of the keyboard cases available for ipad air, this one is the best bet for me. Again, my highlights: Backlit keys Apple Pencil Security Ipad protection Bluetooth hasn't been a problem I got the blue. It looks fine. I wish it came in more colors. Ipad went in the case without too much struggle. I do sometimes (rarely) pull the ipad off to use it without the keyboard, and I don't have to have a completely naked ipad like I did with the magic keyboard. And it goes back on easily enough. I really like this feature. I also have turned the ipad to vertical to type with on certain apps. It becomes even more top-heavy, but you can make it work if you are careful. If a problem arises or something stops working, I will update my review. (I did buy the protection plan thing.)

Excellent and sturdy alternative to magic keyboard!
EDIT: Still love this case and keyboard! One thing I have noticed right from the beginning is that a few of the keys are not as responsive when I’m typing. For example, the right shift+S key won’t always produce a capital “S” so have to hit it a little harder than normal. They still work, but sometimes it needs a little extra pressure. LOVE. Yes, it’s on the heavier side for a folio case, but I LOVE the extra detachable case. Can’t believe how much I’ve used it for work already switching between my work laptop and iPad when responding to emails. The mouse lags a bit, so I wish there was a way to change the sensitivity. However, it’s not a dealbreaker for me since I often use my pro pencil and fingers to navigate the screen. Love the different keyboard colors that backlight the keyboard. Love that the colors I’ve dimmable and I can turn them off to save battery. I really appreciate the magnet strength of the case because it does not feel like my iPad is going to fall off. I also really appreciate that the keyboard is its own battery so I don’t have to rely on my iPad to charge it. Love the light purple color that I bought, it seems to go well with the starlight color of my iPad. One thing that I appreciate is how thin the detachable cases, however, it is a little bit difficult to get the iPad in. If you don’t plan on removing your iPad from the detachable case then you will probably be all set! Otherwise, this is a very intuitive keyboard to use and I like the simple instructions that come with it. One upgrade that I hope they do on this case is adding a pen slot so that my pencil pro doesn’t get lost. I think I waited two or three months for more reviews to come in before I purchased this product. I will come back to update review if anything changes for me.

2013 MacBook Air Replacement
Recently, I picked up a Mac Studio for a steal so I haven’t really needed my old 2013 MacBook Air much except when traveling or feeling extra lazy on the couch to do a few things with a proper keyboard instead of typing out much on my iPhone or iPad. Then, through a work promotion, I was given a 13” iPad Air. (That thing is amazing on its own, but that’s a different review.) I realized the added real estate on my new iPad means I could do everything I was going on my MacBook Air if ONLY I had a keyboard and trackpad. Enter the ESR iPad Air 13” Case! Straight out of the box, it felt great! The magnets hold my iPad snugly! The case tilts and holds the screen just where I want it! And it all folds up into a nice, neat package! Battery life seems to be good enough for the infrequent times I’ve needed it. The response is instantaneous and the trackpad is perfect! I only had ONE (maybe two) complaints: The trackpad doesn’t tap-click like my MacBook Air and the two finger scroll is backwards for how I like it. Thank you Google AI for sharing the fix. Under the Settings>General>Trackpad, I could change both of those settings. THAT is what spurred me to write this review. I have ZERO complaints about this thing now! It’s EXACTLY what I needed and now I’m retiring for good my MacBook Air! This thing is providing the exact functionality I need at an incredibly great price!

Great replacement for Apple Magic Keyboard
I'm sure you have the same dilemma as I am., Debating whether I should buy the Apple Magic Keyboard (MKB) or the ESR Hybrid Case. Price is always an issue for MKB, plus ESR has the 6th row of keys (that MKB doesn't have) and the case to protect the iPad. The overall build is solid, robust, and looks premium. The craftsmanship is superb. The case fits tightly to the iPad Air M2 13-inch. Every hole lines up perfectly. The Bluetooth connection is fast. As soon as you turn it on, it connects to your iPad instantly. The magnet is strong. The keyboard is exactly like what a keyboard should do. Nothing to lush about...you know like on the YouTube reviewer.. "ooo it's so comfortable to type." Yeah... it's a keyboard, not buying underwear people. The touchpad is responsive. (I changed the sensitivity to 75% so it is a bit faster to respond). The only minor glitch, sometimes the click on the touchpad, won't register the click. I'm sure this is more of a user error. since I only spent using it for 2 weeks. Weight-wise, yes it is a bit heavy. I felt like the same weight as my MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 Pro. But that's to be expected. If you want to use the keyboard, you'll have to deal with the weight. I plan to use my iPad as a laptop wannabe, so weight won't be an issue. Besides, for me, the iPad Air M2 13-inch isn't a featherweight either in the first place. But your use might be different. A SMALL TIP: The flap that you fold when you close the keyboard, can be used to store your apple pencil when you are using the keyboard (if you don't want to put the pencil on the charge mode). I found this accidentally. During the keyboard use, the flap has a magnet that can be folded and stuck to the back of the folio. You can stick your Apple pencil on the fold there. The magnet is strong enough that the Apple Pencil safely be tucked in there. OVERALL: I like everything about this keyboard. The price, the craftsmanship, the trackpad, the keyboard, the 6th row of keys, the material, the build quality, the case, the magnetic strength, and the Bluetooth instant connection. It's a good bargain for the money. And a great 3rd party replacement for MKB. However, with a heavy heart, I had to return it and opted to buy Apple MKB and swallow the $350. The reason. is not because the ESR wasn't good, but it's because I like to use the KUXIU magnetic folded arm iPad stand that I already had. I found it too much of a hassle to take the iPad in and out of the case to change between them. I just don't like the case will be pressing the volume button/power button every time I put the iPad back in the case because the case fits snuggly. So it's more about convenience and the ecosystem of accessories that I already have, rather than the quality of the product. I almost want to just keep it. But on second thought, it would just be a waste of money, since I only have one 13-inch iPad. Even though I ended up returning, I still recommend this case. It's the closest thing to Apple MKB with the bonus of getting a case for your iPad and the 6th-row keys at a price that won't break your bank.

It’s a Yes for Me
I’ve really enjoyed using the ESR keyboard case for the past two months. It was easy to set up, and the keyboard feels solid, responsive, and very comfortable to type on. The optional backlighting enhances the overall experience, especially in low-light settings. ~The magnetic pencil holder is a great feature. It keeps the Pencil securely in place when the case is closed, and when I prefer to keep it out of sight while working, it clips neatly under the back flap. ~Although it’s slightly heavier than my previous keyboard case, the excellent tactile feel of the keys makes the extra weight worthwhile. It also feels like it offers better protection for my iPad. I would definitely recommend it.
