Awesome! Thank you!
I rarely write reviews but this thing is so cool and oddly there aren’t many reviews yet. The technology is amazing and perfectly implemented. The wooden board and pieces are beautiful. It easily connects to your chess.com and/or lichess accounts for online live games via their app and bluetooth. Playing over the board is a lot of fun. Battery life is great - perhaps 20 hours of play on a full charge. You can use it as a regular board and no one would know the difference. Surely any chess fan would appreciate how cool it is. Very impressed. This review is for the Air + version. I also bought their carrying bag which holds the board and pieces nicely. Small enough to travel with. Buy one!

A Specialized Chess Set
I would say that this is a very specialized chess board which looks and feels like a standard wooden chess set (Staunton type) and can convert manual moves by the players into electronic format and either store the moves for retrieval or, using a third party app, project the moves onto a screen. I am not a tournament player, just barely a casual player and my interest in this was to see what a chessboard at this price level would feel like to play. Unfortunately, whatever the electronic wizardry involved, the board and pieces are quite ordinary in design and feel. The seller could have provided a more exciting tactile experience with better weighted and finished pieces. And although it comes in a heavy cardboard box with nice graphics, a real case with good storage to protect the pieces would have been appreciated. The electronics part of this is accurate and works as advertised. The included app is OK but buggy. I assume this would be interesting to use at a chess club, where moves could be recorded automatically and shared in real time electronically on the various apps which work with this. Depending upon the app, parameters can be set and time tracked just as it would be in a tournament. The board can also communicate using bluetooth directly with your phone and report to one of the various apps which work with this. For chess enthusiasts, especially those who prefer a traditional wooden board while playing, there is no real equivalent that I am aware of at this price. There is no traditional manual provided--which would have been very helpful, in my opinion. But the seller provides links to online tutorials which are sufficient to understand the options provided.

Best birthday gift for my boy, highly recommend!
Got this as a birthday gift for my son and he absolutely loves it! He’s been playing nonstop for days. Super smooth connection to all the online platforms, especially chess.com, which works perfectly. The different AI levels are great for beginners like him—challenging but not overwhelming. And the full wooden design feels premium and looks amazing at home. Totally worth it, highly recommend! 👍

What a disappointment
What a shock and disappointment!- pieces feel cheap and are so light they topple over ! Also a few had the felt peeling off on the bottom — was this a used set ? The weight of the pieces was not acceptable - The colors were also off and too light - Bottom line — poor quality — possibly used -

LEDs are way too bright.
I bought it direct from the company. It is a nice board though the one I received has two squares that are marred by color irregularities in the wood which could be distracting when playing. The size of the board is just right, and it looks nice. It is quite thin and doesn't look like an electronic chessboard except for the controls on the side, which are subtle. The piece sizes are good, but they are a bit light and will slide off the board easily if the board is moved. Weighted pieces would have been better. The Android app is clunky with no easy navigation arrows, which would be ok if swiping was responsive, but it isn't. They really need to do better. There is no bag included for the pieces, so you will definitely need your own. It has the qualities that I was looking for, but for me there is an unacceptable flaw. The LEDs are very bright; there is no way to adjust them, and Chessnut has no plans address the issue either in a firmware update or in future Air+ versions. So, it's going back. Overall, it is very close but not close enough.

Now she can play solo!
My 11yo daughter's been in her school's chess club for a few semesters now and really enjoys playing. We really enjoy how much she loves the game but don't always have the time to sit down and play a full round with her, so we were really excited to gift her with the Chessnut Air+ Electronic Chess Set in hopes that she could not only play solo but also learn a few things. She was thrilled when she opened it and immediately got it set up to give it a whirl. We had no problem installing the iOS Chessnut app on her iPad and getting it paired to the board. She was able to figure out the options enough to play several games over the course of the weekend and really enjoyed it. We were a little disappointed that the feature to analyze her moves didn't work but instead spit out a bunch of code that we weren't able to decipher. I've since signed her up for a Chess.com account in hopes that it will provide a more intuitive, robust platform and more options for her to choose from when she plays. She hasn't tried that out yet, but she and her sister like the board so much that they've been playing traditional, offline chess with it in the meantime. A bit pricey for offline chess play, but now that they're on summer break, I'm sure they'll find the time to try again. I love that the Chessnut Air+ will give both of my daughters the chance to play more chess and practice new strategies without waiting around for mom and dad (or each other) to have the time to sit down with them to play (or to have to sit around and wait for mom who takes forever and a day to make her moves when she does have time to sit down to play!).
