How many different types of collagen are in this product?

With regards to the Types of collagen, the whole product contains Types I and III, as this is what is found in the raw material animal source (eg bovine skin). To explain the term "peptides", let me start from the beginning: Amino acids (like those listed on our tub) are the building blocks of the body. Collagen is made from special groups of amino acids. These special groups form long and complex collagen molecules which, in turn, create collagen fibres. These fibres are found in hair, skin, nails, joints, bones, cartilage, organs etc. There are over 26 different types of collagen in the human body. Animal skin contains Types I and III, and the collagen fibres in the skin are very strong yet flexible. When animal skin is broken down into gelatin and then into collagen via a process called hydrolysis, these long, complex collagen molecules get broken down into smaller chunks and these chunks are called peptides. Therefore the peptides contained in the collagen powder made from the animal skin contain Type I and Type III collagen So, you cannot say that "certain peptides fall into a certain group/certain collagen Type". But you can say that the peptides in our collagen contain Types I and III collagen. With regards your comment about our label, we do not list peptides on our label. We list the individual amino acid profile because it is not possible to analyse or measure peptides but it is possible to analyse individual aminos. Also, the hydrolysis processed is so refined it is impossible to prove exactly how much of Type I and Type III there is. This is known simply because the product comes from animal skin which contains these types of collagen. With regards to collagen Types, let me explain further - Different "Types" of collagen are linked to the starting raw material. Our product is derived from the skin of cows(bovine) or fish (marine). The skin contains both types I and Type III. Type III is more abundant in younger skin cells. Our Collagen contains predominantly Type I but will also contain small amounts of Type III. The exact amount of how much of each type is present is difficult to standardise as it will vary based on the age of the animals from which the raw material is derived. Scientifically and nutritionally it does not really matter which collagen Type is used because the various Types only differ in their sequence of amino acids. This means that whilst their protein "shape" may vary, the actual amino acid composition is very similar. Also, the ingestion of Collagen actually stimulates the body's production of whatever natural Collagen types the body needs. Therefore, the quality of Collagen Peptides and absorption ability is actually more important than Collagen Type. As our product goes through a very unique, state-of-the-art hydrolysis process, (the use of water to breakdown the protein structure), to reduce the size of the protein into smaller, more readily absorbed Collagen Peptides, the resulting peptides from the different types of collagen are almost identical and therefore act upon the body in the same way, which is to stimulate the body's production of its own natural Collagen types. Therefore ingesting Type I Collagen can trigger the body's natural production of Type II and Type III Collagen or any of the other 16 types of Collagen that exist within the body.
