A Lot of Features
When I need to transfer or read data, I always find myself looking for that one specific device stored away in a drawer somewhere. With this disc reader, I can read CDs, DVDs, SD, MicroSD and also plug in all of my other readers using the built in USB hub. It has consolidated most of my needs to one thin device so I no longer need to search. The disc reader itself is very handy to have for listening to CDs or that one DVD you always love to watch. It loads up quick and has no issues during playback.

Nice features, instructions are totally useless.
This appears to be a nice device to add an external CD/DVD player/writer, and add additional USB ports and an SD slot. Best suited to a laptop due to the short data cable.Pros: versatile device with 4 USB-A ports, an SD slot, and ability to read/write CD's and DVD's. Built in USB Data Cable for USB-A and USB-C.Cons: Instructions are useless! Translated with apparently no proof-reading by an English speaking person. There is a supplemental power cord, but no information on when to use it.There are a lot of features for the price, and I so far it has worked for what I want it to. I will edit review if things change. Stay tuned.

Plays DVDs
This multi functional DVD player is what we should be getting with every new laptop purchase. I can't believe that the computer manufacturers have just so casually removed optical drives from their products, and nobody has complained about it. Think about it, we have less now, than we had in the Windows XP era. The need for products like this one is astronomical. Thankfully, this external optical drive works, and plays CDs and DVDs without issues. I hooked this up to my TV so we could watch our movies on it, and it's been working fine. No drivers needed to be installed, and there have been no connection issues so far. I am pleased with it.

Works Great!
The cord is painfully short but otherwise everything works exactly as it should. My PC didn't come with a disc drive and I like streaming movies in a VR movie theater that runs off my computer. This perfectly did the trick. There's both a USB and USB-C plug so you can use either to tether to your computer. The included instructions were translated a little funny, to get it to play simply open "My Computer" or "This PC", then right click on the DVD drive and select "Play in VLC" or Play in whichever video player you have installed, I personally use VLC. Bonus how lightweight and small this is, doesn't take up any room on my desk.

Worked exactly as described, no drivers needed!
Plugged this into my desktop and it worked immediately. It showed up as an HP DVD drive in my device manager. It managed to play a very scratched DVD with no problems at all. On my desktop, I did need to use the included auxillary USB power cord, otherwise the drive kept disconnecting when trying to spin the disc. After connecting the power cable it worked perfectly. On my laptop the USB ports give more power and I was able to use the integrated USB-C cable alone. I love that the USB cable can be stored inside the unit, though I wish there were a storage area for the USB power cord as well since some computers will require that. The card reader slots (SD and micro SD) both worked well and the speeds were comparable to my standalone USB 3.0 card reader. It's nice to have both functions in the same device. Would definitely recommend this!

A nice external component
Windows 11 here, and the experience was not plug and play for me, but with some troubleshooting, it now works great! Some pointers for others... The included instructions are not very helpful. The product description on Amazon mentions that the additional USB-to-micro USB power cable is for supplemental power supply only, and that this power cord cannot transmit data. So if you are using the separate power cord by itself, your computer won't detect the external drive. (Use the integrated cord nested under the bottom to connect the drive to your PC. It has USB-C and USB-A connectors, which is nice.)The biggest challenge I had was when I tried to use the CD/DVD Drive hub to daisy chain an external hard drive. That created a conflict in the USB assignments, and my PC stopped recognizing the optical drive and defaulted it to mass storage. The fix for that was uninstalling the drive, uninstalling the usb port, and rebooting -- as well as one additional CRITICAL step... if your setup requires the use of the additional power supply cord, UNPLUG the CD/DVD unit for a hot minute as well before you try reconnecting the device. So, I'll probably not try that again. I'm grateful for a device that actually does work with Windows 11 (I've tried others that didn't). I do wish it came with driver support to help smooth out the experience.

Does NOT work with a Mac
I ordered this thinking I could hook it up to a Mac, but the operating system does not recognize it and you can't download drivers for the Mac. We're a Mac-only house, so we tried it on various machines that had different operating systems, and none of them worked. If you have a PC you'll probably have better luck.It plays discs that are re-writeable, but you can't burn a disc. This is also old skool technology, it does not play BluRays. The whole thing feels like an old piece of technology that was repackaged.

Works great
I got this because the CD drive in my PC was pretty flimsy to begin with and finally gave up. While I do my backups in the cloud, and I do use thumb drives, there are just some things that I feel better knowing I have saved in multiple manners, such as photos and certain documents. There are also some things that I just don’t trust to the cloud. This external drive does the job great. It’s true plug and play—I didn’t do a single thing other than plug it into a USB port and start using it. The only complaint I have is that the built-in USB cable is very short. But that’s partly a function of the fact that it folds up and stores on the underside of the drive and is permanently attached to it, a design feature I like very, very much. But where I plug the drive in, it means that I can’t turn the drive around to face the front, so I guess I’ll have to get a USB extension. It’s a compromise to have the full portability of the drive. It operates smoothly and very quietly, and the construction is more solid than my built-in drive was. All in all, I’m happy with this drive.
