Perfect for aspiring young paleontolgists
tl;dr- This book may be small, but it's perfect for little hands to carry around. The text is advanced for pre- and emergent readers, but the plentiful pictures make this little (thick) book accessible to dinosaur aficionados of all ages. Highly recommended for any budding paleontologist. We purchased this book a year ago for our kids (then dd was 6 and ds was 4). I was a bit surprised by the small dimensions, though it is a very thick book. The first few months, our kids took it outside to use as a field guide for their "dinosaur expeditions." It got lost during a particularly engaging afternoon, and was slightly damaged from morning dew when recovered a week later. The fact that it was still quite usable is a testament to the quality of materials used to make this book.We bought a second copy so that each kid would have their own, and once again the small size proved an asset. They were each able to carry their book and and a steno book in their little backpacks during several visits to the dino exhibition at our local science center. By that time, they had memorized the page numbers of their favorite dinosaurs and had no problem finding the pictures of the dinos on display. The text is a little advanced for the pre-k through 1st grade crowd, but it's in small snippets that aren't too onerous for an adult to briefly read aloud. Not really a storytime book; it is an encyclopedia after all.

Fabulous book
We saw this little book at the Journey Museum in Rapid City, SD and knew we had to have a copy. They didn't sell it, but Amazon did! The book includes just about everything a person (young or old) could want to know about dinosaurs, and the graphics are second to none, IMHO. The cover dimensions are small, but don't be fooled - it is about three inches thick!

Not what I wanted, but good.
I read all the reviews on several of these books and settled on this one. It turned out to be be not what I was looking for, which shows how difficult it can be to select a book and how useless a review can be. The book is nice, so we will keep it, but in case someone else is in this position, maybe my opinion will help. My son is four and he began really loving dinosaurs, so I thought we would get an encyclopedia-type text with many more that he could see and learn about than just our little dino book. What we need is an alphabetized, user-friendly book with all the dinosaurs and a sketch of each one. Also a phonetic pronunciation would be nice. This book is organized by period (triassic, jurassic, cretaceous, etc), which is just too confusing for us at our level of learning. Using the index is cumbersome for look ups, would be nice to just flip to the letter, etc. Some dinos have no drawings or just skeletons. He likes to see the actual beast.

highly recommended.
beautiful detailed pictures with good info. its a thick book. I got it for my dino crazy kid after prying the libary copy out of her hands. All the kids look at it every day even after a few months of ownership it still fasnites them. I recommend this book for all ages. Definately a must have for any interested in dinos. we've checked out many books from the libaries but this one is by far the best.

All I can say is WOW
This book was received in great time, and is a virtual wealth of information. The information, and information in this book is absolutely priceless, I encourage parents to get this for their children, as it will surely make good reports in the students later days in school. I assure you, you will NOT be disappointed. The pictures of the dinosaurs are fantastic. Two thumbs up!!!

AWESOME for any kid who loves dinosaurs
So my son was just turning 3 when he fell in love with this book from the library. I had to buy it for him and it is still one of his favorites almost a year later. He loves to see all the pictures and names of the dinosaurs, and as he gets older I'm sure he will enjoy learning more about each one. A must for any dino-lover.

lots of info!
I got this book for my 7 year old nephew for Christmas. Haven't given it to him yet, but think he'll love it! Has great pictures and loads of info. I didn't realize it was as small as it is, but that's my fault for not checking the dimensions. :)
