Engages critical thinking
Engaging texts, and clearly shows a commitment to individualised learning - every student can ascend at their own pace, on their on unique trajectory... It is differentiated very professionally.Great interconnected resources throughout, I believe this would foster collaboration between parents, teachers and students like it did for us. The benefits lie not just in its comprehensive coverage, however also the articulate and professional ways it approaches complexity with short workouts! This is not going to overwhelm but it will nurture

Handy & Engaging: CGP's 10-Minute English Workouts for Year 7
I tried out this 10-minute English workout book designed for Year 7 students with my nephew who was going to year 7 september come. This book is cool because it had a good range of challenging parts for Year 6 level and more stretching which took him more time and effort. There's a pproximately 36 exercises (or "workouts") in it, one for each school week. It’s easy to track progress since each workout has a tick box and the answers are at the back for parents to check.Good (Pros):Clear progress tracking with tick boxes and score sheets.Starts with Year 6 level to help transition to Year 7 and gives insight to the year 7 content ahead. Each workout is short but covers reading, writing, and more.Fun exercises utilising gamification to entertain.Great for extra practice at home, especially if you want a bit more challenge.Supports national curriculum.Useful for parents and teachers for extra homework ideas.Not-so-good (Cons):While designed for weekly use, some may tend to do the easier ones first.Answers are at the back rather than a separate handout so some may be tempted to cheat. If you're in Year 7 or even Year 6 and love English (or need a bit of extra practice), this workout book is for you. It's fun and got told it didn't feel like homework. I do some functional skill delivery and the guides gave me some ideas for some embedded English.

Extra practice at home
This book is part of the new series of CGP 10-minute weekly workout books labelled for Y7 students. I believe that more able Y6 students can challenge themselves to try to answer the questions as well.Like other CGP books, this book has all the answers located at the back for self-evaluation or parent marking. It has 36 workouts in total, matching up perfectly for one a week during term time. In fact, the contents page and the titles at the top of each worksheet details which week of each term it is designed to be completed in. Each worksheet is prefaced with a tick box in the contents page, so it is easy for you and your child to track which ones have been completed, and there is a glossary for difficult/new terms and a scoresheet on the last page to allow you to track progress. The first three workouts in autumn term are at a Year 6 level, so are meant to be completed at the very start of Year 7. The contents page has a brief summary under each worksheet number detailing what is covered, so you can try and link them to their classes, and some topics are covered again in later terms to reinforce their understanding and expand on it as well. Each workout starts with a simple warm up question, followed by questions on reading, SPaG, and then finally a short writing exercise. They are all marked out of 12. The CGP books support the national curriculum, covering topics including non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and other aspects of English. The 10-minute series is designed for quick and good quality practice to help students recall their knowledge and revise what they have learnt in school.I think it is a perfect book for children in year 7 looking for a little bit of extra English practice at home.
