Is the clamp padded so it won't scar the piano?

As I recall, it has a pad that might be felt or it might be rubber. It will not scratch and it is weighted so it stays in place. I bought this for our church piano and will look at it Sunday to double check, but I really am impressed with this light for the price. My biggest worry was the size of the base but it fits exactly behind the thing that holds the sheet music. Also, the neck is high enough to go up and over the sheet music stand and not be in anyone's eyes. Our pianist told me she is very happy with it.

Is the on/off a hard button or a soft button?

Um, not sure exactly what that means but it's a similar switch to ring lights that I have. There's the on/off button, a button to cycle through the different colors, and then a brightness tab as well. You do have to push with some force though. Excuse my thumb, I just had a nasty kitchen mishap last week so I have a scar forming

Is this chordless & rechargeable ?

No, it is not cordless. You plug the chord into an outlet. There are no batteries involved, so there is nothing to recharge. The light bulb is not replaceable, but the specs say it should last upwards of 50,000 hours. My previous piano lamp had batteries and needed recharging after only a few uses. That was one of the reasons I got this one. Very glad I did.
