Powerful little guy works great for animators
Got my PC yesterday, I was so excited it felt like Christmas. The packaging was nice and set up was easy. I have a 3 monitor set up, had no issues connecting it to my monitors. I did experience issues connecting it to my KVM switch, but I haven’t isolated the issue so it could be my switch. I purchased the PC for animation. I use programs like Blender, After Effects, Adobe Character Animator, and Premiere pro. I’ve been struggling running the programs on my latitude 7240 and decided it was time to invest in an upgrade. The programs run so smooth on this mini PC, I could cry lol. the attached image is my CPU and GPU utilization while streaming a Wnba game and animating in blender. Needless to say the PC is unbothered. I imported a few large HQ 3D objects in blender to get an idea of how much this PC can handle. On my old laptop I couldn’t even display them in render view without blender crashing. On this mini PC they open smoothly and I can switch to material and render view effortlessly. i did run into 1 issue today. I was doing some very light work in Blender and all of a sudden the PC restarted. afterward I couldn’t open blender or the AMD performance monitoring software (it was saying it didn’t support my graphics card, which obviously isn’t the case since I had it running pre restart. both issues were indicative or a graphics card issue. I ended up updating the driver and problem solved. It reminded me to purchase the warranty though. I’ve worked in IT for almost 14 years and although I can tackle a lot of stuff myself, I know it’s always worth it to purchase protection. You never know what could happen. So far, i’m extremely happy with my purchase. I will update my review if I run into problems or in a few weeks/months.

First mini pc and glad I chose Minisforum
I never bought a mini pc before and this was the first time. I needed another pc to do work on with a smaller footprint so I decided to look into mini pcs. I researched a littlebit and the reason I chose this was for the 780m and the io ports these suit my needs perfectly. It also looks really great. Minisforum customer service is top notch. I have been using it on and off since I had to travel. I was experiencing bsod and random restarts and I only really began using it after Amazon return deadline. So i decided to contact Minisforum customer service. Their customer service provided me a few fixes to try, but in the end none worked. They told me to send the pc with all the original parts back and they would send me a new one after they confirmed everything. I did just that and only only 2days later I recieved a brand new updated unit! This unit is perfect no more bsod and random restarts. I have my trust in Minisforum now. Will definitely purchase another mini pc from Minisforum in the future if I need to!

Really love it but it constantly crashes
Got this a week ago. It is very fast and responsive but it would crash, freeze up, or reboot by itself without warning a few times a day (3 times already since this morning). I’m still trying to figure out whether it is a hardware issue or a software issue. I set it up as a dual boot Windows and Linux system (but I run Linux most of the time). I’ve invested a lot of time on it to install the software, so I hope it is not a hardware problem that I have to return it. Otherwise I love this little machine. Update: It is so unfortunate that I have to return it, after spending so much time trying to make it work. I’ve combed through the system log files to figure out what went wrong, but I’m unable to come up with a conclusion other than thinking that it is most likely a hardware issue. In just 5 days the computer had crashed more than 50 times. I’ve seen problems with Bluetooth and hard drive (most common), and the last time I witnessed that my screen flickered then emitted a high pitch noise that lasted a split second, but the computer continued to run until I shut it down. When I restarted the screen did not come up and the keyboard was frozen (cap lock would not respond). Then I did another hard shutdown, waited a few hours, but this time it restarted like normal. At this point I decided that the computer is hopeless so I wiped all personal info and reinstalled the system from scratch before requesting an Amazon return. I’m very disappointed with this product, so I took out two more stars.

Surprisingly powerful and Linux compatible
TLDR: The Minisforum UM790 Pro is a great little device with excellent Linux compatibility and surprisingly strong gaming chops for its price point. Recommended. I purchased the 64GB version of the UM790 Pro and I've had it for about two weeks. I've been happy with it so far. I run Kubuntu Linux on mine and I have not had any problems. Installation was a breeze with no unusual steps required. All ports seem to be working out of the box. I primarily use my UM790 Pro for web development and general productivity, and it excels at both. I switch between workspaces often and I keep multiple applications open at all times. No issues. I've tried a few games just to see how this little device handles them. It's pretty impressive for the price point. Wrath of the Righteous runs well at 1080P on medium settings and I suspect BG3 would be about the same. Older games and indie games run as smooth as you could ask for. Skull Girls runs like a dream, and I played Grim Dawn. At 2K on high. I could probably make 4K work if I wanted to spend some time optimizing the settings but, honestly, on a 27 inch monitor 2K is fine. So, is it comparable to a full tower with a 4060? No, of course not. But for it's size and price point I'm completely satisfied with the gaming performance of the UM790 Pro. I was concerned about fan noise on this machine when I bought it and I'd read mixed reviews. I'fe found it to be basically silent during normal operation and coding work. The fan does kick on during gaming and it's noticable but not excessive. The UM790 Pro offers a lot of value for the dollar and I'd recommend it to anyone in the market for a good Mini PC.

Worth the money and effort!
My product is up and running. I replaced a large tower I built 6~7 years ago. It had a Ryzen 5 and of course used a standard motherboard, power supply, etc. I was considered pretty fast at the time. I run CAD software on my P.C. and I need speed. This unit is faster, has as much RAM memory and equivalent SSD storage that my tower did, 1gb. I should say I ordered the 790 with 32GB ram and 1TB of disk space. Given I have a lot of programs, CAD and a whole host of other programs to support it, I used a product called Acronis to take the image of my Tower and overlay it in this new P.C. (it's referred to as installing to dissimilar hardware). After I did that I had essentially a clone of my old Tower running on this UM790. Now the difficulty comes. Whenever one installs to dissimilar hardware, the obvious advantage is that you have minimal reinstallation of programs and the headaches that comes with, e.g. license keys, etc. However the install process overwrites the drivers too. So now your new UM790 has a mishmash of "generic drivers" and mismatched drivers. To take care of this issue I downloaded the driver package from the product's website. Much to my dismay, some of the drivers in the package wouldn't install (or reinstall) to put the mini back to factory fresh. The Bluetooth and wifi drivers were incorrect for the hardware used in this UM790 and I had to invoke AI (Chat) to figure it all out. Two full days later I finally got everything up and running. So, just to close this out. Yes, I'm satisfied as this computer saves me a lot of space. It's performance is equal to, or possibly better than what it replaced. It has an adequate number of USB Ports and one can expand them as needed externally. I gave it 4 stars only in that the driver bundle needs to match the hardware. I and to use drivers from Lenovo and from Dell to get the wifi6 and the bluetooth working.

Fast, stable, compact
This replaced a desktop for me and in addition to saving space, it has worked flawlessly. I added a second SSD and it worked without issue. It is fast and stable. I use it for some data analysis, video and audio editing and a lot of videoconferencing.

Do it, you wont regret it if on a budget but need max power and performance.
All the above and more. I was skeptical buying the mini-PC, especially after hours of reviews. This one nailed everything I needed and more for my kid. He needed a gaming PC for R6 Siege, random you tubing etc. Out the box it clearly outperformed his old gaming PC that wouldn't update to windows 11. Lightning fast set up, download and play. 120FPS in R6 without even hitting the system max. He was happier than I've seen him while loading up and playing. Will buy again for my other kids. Great value for all you get. Gaming quality and capabilities unmatched for price. Thank you Mini forum.
