Nice barrel
It leaks. But, if water is hot and you don't disturb it. It's ok. I'm going to try another. They may just be to small. The wood has to be cut to precise size and barrel rings done just right. Knock on wood. I've not had any problems with the 2 liter size. You just have to be careful with the 1 liter. Bought a second 1liter barrel. It doesn't leak. I used a dead blow hammer and hammered down on rings. One was loose. It's working great.

Seems ok …at first
Having owned a few barrels over the years this one arrived undamaged and appeared relatively well made for the price - however even after soaking the inside several times with hot water , the top and bottoms simply would not be water tight - even went for the external soak in a plastic bucket …no better - you will basic have to coat the entire thing with wax to make it hold liquid and even then it will escape through the hoops - can not recommend this for anyone looking to age liqour

Great barrel
Great barrel. Unvarnished so it can breathe. Condition as directed and it works great!

Meager quality - pine stand?
1L cask Initial impressions - Meager quality. The manufacturer cut corners trying to save 32 cents in material and made the stand out of pine. 💩Really? 😕Seal and performance TBD.

Looks and works great
This is my third barrel from this seller, and it's the best so far. I like the unvarnished look and the unfinished rings. Also this barrel sealed very quickly, and I think being unvarnished helps. I've had bad luck with a smaller 2 liter varnished version that will not stop leaking, but for this 5 liter unvarnished, it's great, looks and feels like a real distillery barrel. Can't wait to age some whisky in here.

You lose a lot
When I got the cask, I filled it with water and waited 5 days, as directed. Then I put about 3.5 liters/120 ounces of bourbon in it. Over the next couple months, I occasionally tested it to see how it was progressing, probably totaling 10-12 ounces removed. After 3 months, I emptied the cask, and I found I had 21 ounces left! So the very most I could have possibly taken out was less than a liter. That means I lost about 70% of it through slow leakage and evaporation. I am afraid to out anything of value in it with that kind of a loss rate. The above was my original review. After I wrote that, I coated the whole thing in wax and returned that less than a liter of bourbon to the cask and added enough vermouth and Averna to make a nice cask-aged black Manhattan. I then left for three weeks and came back to find only about a cup remained--about 3/4 of it was gone.I don't know if this is the worst product of any kind I have ever bought, but it is darned close. It will not only rob you of the cost of the item itself, it will rob you of the cost of whatever you put in it.

Works just as it should
Once I soaked the barrel it became water tight. The barrel added great flavor to my first batch of Manhattans. I am very confused by the description of a one gallon barrel which holds 5 liters - a liquid gallon is 3.78 liquid liters. I filled mine up my one gallon barrel and poured it in the measuring cups to verify and I poured out around 6 liters. Not sure why these measures don't line up but happy with it either way.
