Ballast is a great value and performs very well
Purchased 2 to replace aging Motorola ballasts that had over 10 years of 8 hours/day use. And these are a great value in just under half of what the home improvement stores sell them for and a third the cost at a lighting store. These went in very easily. The wires are attached to the ballast so I only needed to remove the wires from the bulb socket ends and plug these in.It is almost fool proof. Red wires on one end and yellow on the other end of the bulb. And the other set of bulbs get a blue wire and yellow on the other end. As long as red and blue are not on the same bulbs, its good to go, just follow the wiring schematic on the bulb.I since put in both ballasts and have purchased two more to keep as spares. I did have a bulb go bad on one of the new ballasts and it was very forgiving. Put a new bulb in and it was running again. The old ones seem to knocked out by bad bulbs. The Sylvania seem very robust. They work very well. In fact I have a spare fixture that I already have wired with a new ballast to make change out a snap. Its not really necessary, but having the spare fixture and getting the wires laid out ahead of time works for my shop. The only thing that would have been better...I should have gotten all 4 in the first place. But shipping was very reasonable. And I will order these again.

Works well, easy to install and now really instant ON.
Bought several of these to upgrade my flourescent fixtures in our garage, laundry room and master closet. I originally tried the 48" LED bulbs in our closet and one garage fixture, and even though they were quite bright, two only lasted a few days and the cost is still astronomical. I have since re-wired the garage fixture using one of these back to flourescent and upgraded to T8 bulbs. Very bright and instant on, the old flourescents were much dimmer, whould take a lot of flickering to come on and always had magnetic waves in them. Rewiring takes a slight bit of McGiver knowledge as I re-used the tombstones that required a bit of re-engineering to get them to make solid contact with the wires. Wiring diagram is included and fairly simple. I replaced two ballasts per fixture with this one as I have 4 bulbs in each fixture. What a difference in the garage and laundry room. My wife almost needs sun glasses for our master closet. I did use 5000K bulbs rather than the warmer 2700K bulbs. But if you do as I did, get the bulbs locally, I ordered a large box from Amazon and several arrived broken. Amazon is known for their customer service, so I just contacted them and returned the entire box for a full refund. Thanks Amazon, that is why I am a loyal customer.

Works great though slight pause on each startup
There's a slight pause from the moment I click the switch until the lights come on (half a second) which is different that original operation before this ballast was installed but it seems to do the job and was certainly a good price. Installed in a 4-bulb ceiling fixture, replacing two OEM ballasts that were failing after 7 years of use. The bulbs were a little dark in the middle when first started. After 15-30 minutes, all four new bulbs were brightly and uniformly lit. The power up brightly every time now, albeit after that brief delay mentioned.

Very pleased with this ballast.
I purchased this 4-tube ballast to retrofit a very old non-working kitchen fluorescent light fixture, which contained a pair of 2-tube magnetic ballasts. The price was low, delivery was much faster than expected (UPS Priority Mail shipped the same day I ordered), Sylvania's 5 year in-home warranty is nice, it's silent, and the ballast is capable of driving any number of tubes, from 1 to 4. (To save money, I'm using two 32W tubes, which uses only a little more than half the power needed to drive four tubes.) Rewiring the fixture was straight-forward... some cutting and soldering of wires behind the 8 sockets. My kitchen has a second fixture, about 5 years old, which contains the same model ballast. It hasn't given me any problems, unless you count the flickering tube (Philips Alto II) that I recently needed to replace. (I actually chose to remove two of that fixture's four tubes rather than replace the flickerer. There was still plenty of light.)

Brilliant!!
I used these starters and the Philips 281576 to replace the T12 bulbs and starters in my shop lights. When I received the package I thought "something went wrong, this box is loo light to be ballasts." These ballasts are lighter, start immediately (no matter what the ambient temperature) and were simple to swap in. My T12 4-bulb fixtures had the same ballast footprint (no holes to be drilled or metal to be snipped) and the bulb pin configuration is the same for T12 or T8. The ballasts were significantly less expensive than in the local box stores and I didn't have to check the model number on each one to ensure I got what I wanted...don't know why but every time I go the box store shelf something is restocked in the wrong bin.

then this purchase was a total waste of money that has caused me misery because of ...
The ballast's I received were branded Osram not Sylvania, thank God I ordered 2 because the first one I installed lasted less than 3 months. Don't know what the warranty is because it is not stated on the products detail. If the second ballast only last 2 1/2 months, then this purchase was a total waste of money that has caused me misery because of the chewing my wife has given me for her kitchen light going out.

Excellent Product
The ballast is all that it is advertised to be. Installation was a breeze and the lighting is a very bright white (obviously, the color depends on the tubes you install) - just what I wanted. I only hope the longevity is better than the ballast that came with the light. Time will tell. I gave the product 5 Stars because of the quality of the end result. However, I was tempted to give a 4-Star rating because the delivery time was slower than what I have come to expect from Amazon and Amazon vendors. Otherwise, very pleased.

I love it!
One ballast replaces two old magnetic ballasts in 4-tube fixture. Replaced aging T12's with new T8 tubes (temporary). So bright now I need to wear sun screen! Next step is off to Costco to get LED tubes and start saving energy $$$. Ballast fits exactly into existing mounts in fixture. Connections are easy - turn OFF brain and just match the colors. Does not interfere with X-10 communications as far as I can tell so far.UPDATE: I installed 18W LED tubes. Just as bight! Bad news is the electronic ballast interferes with X-10 communications. Good news is that inserting an inductor (200uH @ 2A.) in series with AC hot wire eliminates the interference. I still love it!

Bought two. One failed withing 2 months.
Based on the scratches seen on the housing and the need to straighten the sheet metal mounting flange on the one end, Im not convinced that where even new items.
