Has all the excitement of a Marvel novel. Margaret Stohl does a great job with the Black Widow. Review: I loved this book - This story picks up a year after Forever Red, if you haven’t read it yet, you need to read it before this. Ava and Natasha, the red and black widow respectively, are still tied to one another. Ava is top of her class training to be a SHIELD operative, and Natasha is keeping busy doing….spy stuff. Neither one is taking the loss of Alex well, but it ties them in one more way- they will have vengeance. When Natasha gets a lead about the Red Room still having operations even without their leader, the two go to the desertcarts to look around. Natasha’s past is coming back to haunt her again, with a new threat that wants to crush her through Ava. Add to this, there’s a new drug on the streets that could mean big problems. I loved this book, it had a lot of action (flaming Harley’s and glowing swords, grenades…. It was like reading the latest Super Hero movie). I loved the play between characters…. Though one came on the scene that I was not expecting and still don’t know what to do with (not saying who, I am trying hard to have less spoilers on my review). I will say, this made me question their mental health a bit… but after their childhoods I never really imagined them to be well adjusted. Ava has grown a lot since we first met her, and Natasha is coming around- it’s scary for her, caring so much about someone else. Coulson and Stark are the same- sarcastic and hilarious while managing to be instrumental to the story line. Oh, and we meet Captain Marvel (she will eventually have her own story through Marvel by another author but I can’t find a timeline). I really liked her as a character. We end with certain things hanging open, easing the way for a third book (please let there be a third book!), but I haven’t seen any talk about it yet. I hope there is one, though… I am nowhere near done with these characters. Five stars. On the adult content scale I give it a six. There is a lot of violence and language, as well as drug use. I would still give it to a teen without issue.

I look forward to another in this series
I enjoyed Stohl’s first Marvel YA novel, Forever Red, so I didn’t hesitate to order the sequel. This one was also entertaining, with some improvements over the first and a few issues. The first book was told was the POV of Ava, a young woman saved by Black Widow while on a mission. The events of that book left the two of them with a “quantum” connection. Here, Ava has been training at SHIELD Academy to hone her powers and skills. The story opens with her and Natasha in South America when they become embroiled in a new conspiracy originating from Russia’s infamous Red Room. One of the things I liked so much about this book is that is alternates POV between the two Widows (rather than just Ava). This provided for more suspense and tension as readers see events from both perspectives. Ava is now the Red Widow, but she’s still a trainee struggling with PTSD and the death of Alexei. I love that the author doesn’t shy away from her making mistakes – like an actual rookie – but even better that she learns from them. I also liked that Tony Stark takes a more active role in the mystery when the events go global. And Captain Marvel and Maria Hill also make appearances. This was more than just a spy mission. A couple things didn’t work. The SHIELD debriefings, that opened each chapter in the first book, are continued here. They worked great in “Forever Red” because most of the book was Ava’s POV and they let readers in on SHIELD’s perspective. They didn’t work as well here. They still fit the theme, but too often they interrupted the flow of the story, which became frustrating. Another problem was the sudden jump to Dante’s POV at the end of the novel. This didn’t just slow the story, it was like a screeching halt. It felt like a contrived effort to suddenly show readers things happening with the villain. Overall, this was another well-done novel set in the Marvel Universe. I love the blended nature of these books – characters from the comics and films mingle seamlessly and the characterizations of those that appear in both mediums are a good mix. It’s the best of both worlds. The ending had a nice hook for a potential third book, without leaving readers hanging.

First off let me start by saying I love Natasha Romanoff and I will buy anything that she's in. Okay so this book is super action packed but not so much that I can't follow the story (which was a problem I had in the first one) Ava's arc throughout the book was really interesting to see as well as Nat's. I like how it tied together their two stories and also included some of the MCU characters that I love so much. Also CAROL DANVERS aka Captain Marvel (kinda spoiler-ish I think) was in this so it pretty much gets an A+ from me. Anyways I really hope this gets a sequel and possibly gets us a Black Widow movie.

Great Sequel
I know a lot of people don't like this series, but I enjoy it. In comparison to the first book, this one was much better. The plot was relatively simple which I liked. We got a lot more Natasha which is always nice. Plus we also got Captain Marvel! Overall, I enjoyed it and thought it was a lot of fun. I hope the series continues because the end sets up a sequel.
