Golden AgePremium Wiring Kit for Gibson SG with Push-pull Pots, Standard-shaft CTS Pots and Chrome Switchcraft Switch

As much as I love my 2001 SG goth, it had a latent ground hum that just never went away. After cracking it open, I realized that the wiring was completely shoddy: bad grounds, over-soldered caps, and no shielding anywhere. It could have been factory but I suspect it was the eBay seller who gave me a "sweet deal" in 2004. Anyways, I jumped on this kit to replace the electronics and am pretty satisfied. These parts work perfectly in a 50's wiring setup and the ground hum is completely gone. The tone knobs were a bit too tall (the push-pull pins on top were sticking out) but with a little leverage, the backplate fit into place. I would recommend using some heat-shrink tubing, in case you're worried about ground interference. If you aren't fully comfortable with soldering, I'd recommend going with a prefab wiring harness which may be a little cheaper.

The kit has all quality components but the 3 way switch is hopelessly too short for an SG body. I bought this kit because it has SG in the name. I had to drill out the mahogany body until it was thinner than a nickel in order to get the switch to pass through the body. This switch should be changed or left out of the kit.

Directions were inadequate. As a kit for an SG you could have added Gibsons standard color code for their hum bucket wiring. The Push pull pots are too steep for s 2017 SG Standard cavity but you can bend the pins down and cram snd jam them in. Better fitting switchable potentiometers are available from the same manufacturer. (CTS)
