Too small
After sending and returning other versions of this item I have decided to keep this. They are all far too small. My old Franklin was much easier to use and the thesaurus much better. This is very fiddly and I find that using a rubber pointer is better than fingers. The makers of these should realise that quite a percentage of customers are in the older age bracket. The screen is too small for older eyes and especially one of the other types had a green screen which was not good at all. Black printing on yellow or white background is the best. It also switches off too quickly and you have to reset it again each time. It would be much better to improve the dictionary and thesaurus rather than have calculators, clocks, phone number storage, etc. One of the plus points of these is supposed to be that they are pocked-sized. My old Franklin was a good big bigger but still pocket sized. Smaller is certainly not better.

Disappointing waste of money as a crossword solver
I bought this as a replacement for my old Franklin which I used to help me solve crosswords. Should have been guided by a previous reviewer. The Chambers dictionary has been replaced by Collins offering fewer words. Limited number of synonyms and no list with varying number of letters. The text and the buttons are smaller and the directional arrows are not properly separated and very small so it is not east to press one at a time. Anagram function and word builder work quickly but with limited dictionary do not always come up with a result. So Franklin why did you change to something which is neither satisfactory as a dictionary nor to solve crosswords.

This is a good product however it stopped working after less than 1 year. I have no idea why. We put in a fresh Duracell battery too. Very disappointed. I had this growing up 30 years ago and that unit lasted decades. Build quality has decreased!

Over all I have to say it works for what I bought it for. My grandson was using his tablet to look up the definition and spelling of words. But, when I wasn't in the room he gets side tracked with videos or ads that would pop up. Ironically, the dictionary he had doesn't always have an easy explanation for a second grader in defining words that they can understand. I have found that this is working great we've had it for about 2 weeks now. There are only 2 dislikes. 1) is the size; I wish it was a bit larger. On the box that the owner uses to advertise it You can see that it looks like a good size. You could see by the picture that it's not very big at all. 2) Is if it was black on white meaning the background in white and the writing in black. However, it's an older model so it's bluish black lettering on a green background. But it gives you the definition and it also has a thesaurus that works great as well. I would recommend it to anybody looking for a quick way to help when spelling and finding the meanings to words for first grade to adulthood.
