I want to achieve a lift of just 3mm, so I only need 1 of the strips. Question is, do I peel off and use the small top strip or the big bottom strip?

Yes, it needed quite a bit of force. perhaps you can get between the layers to be seperated and the slowly and steadily pull them apart. (Aged 85 and dependent on a rollator and with one let now shorter than the other (femur fracture), I find the orthotix inserts useful when doing a 'health walk' outside particularly on rough ground where I feel balanced and only leaning over to one side ground irregularities.) I hope you have success peeling the layers apart.

Do these stick in the shoe?

The product doesn't come with any means of sticking into the shoe, but you may find some adhesive to permanently sticking it on.

I take a size 4 but wear in my wellies or walking boots which are wider than 'normal' shoes. what is the width of these please.

Just under 2.5 inches. I am size 6 and transfer them between shoes, boots and wellies and find they are ok. They are also quite firm and long lasting. I am thinking of buying more as I have so many boots etc!
