In The Potting Shed Specialist Range Orchid Bark Compost

This is lovely stuff. I have three phals, one mini, all of which were gifts, and all came, as usual, in very unsuitable potting medium. They were suffering, but flowering so beautifully, I was reluctant to repot, but the state of the roots was so awful I just had to. I've bought commercial orchid medium before, but this is so much nicer! It smells rich but not mushroomy like the other stuff, and has chips of a soft moisture retaining substance. The pieces are fairly small, so there is plenty of air for the roots to breathe and grow. I tested the retention by soaking a few spoonfuls then spreading them on cardboard, and it holds moisture really well. In the past when I've repotted, I've always lost blooms, but not this time. I had to cut a ton of roots and fully expected to lose the flowers but a fortnight later it's not happening, and the leaves are joyfully plump and standing taller. I don't know if it's this new medium but I'm definitely going to buy this again. Highly recommended.

It's great and does the job, really helps to aireate the soil and prevents root rot. It was also mixed with a decent amount of pearlite. I used this mix to create my own potting mix for a wide range of plants and all are doing well as it supports healthy root growth. It looks like it won't be enough but actually is a good amount for the price and quality.

I have been using this product for a while, having kept orchids for around 8 years and never had and problems and all orchids are flourishing using this product. The bark chips are quite small so this is probably better for smaller/younger orchids. Retains more moisture than larger bark so be careful not to over water. bark has always arrived slightly damp, delivery has always been prompt.

With a little care it is amazing how your orchid will respond to fresh compost and a bigger pot. Quite easy to do, just be patient with soft hands.

This compost is so much better quality than the branded make I previously bought, which was very dry and dusty, and my repotting was unsuccessful using it. I repotted my orchid with this product about a month ago following the handy information sheet which came with it. The product is lovely and moist and hardly made any mess. My old orchid seems to love it and has grown two stems with lots of buds, which I am looking forward to blooming.

Value for money, lasted me for ages. Fantastic for terrariums tooo!
