“I Am With You”
“Making All Things New” is bold but beautiful, hard but hopeful, sensitive but sound and wise but welcoming. Here is a sampling of some of the compassionate, down-to-earth, and yet sometimes lyrical help that this book offers. • Jesus’s mercies make all things new. His grace is a most versatile stain remover. He redeems both the wayward and the wounded. His wisdom puts sex in its proper perspective. He goes to work on us. He works in us for as long as it takes. He does not give up. He will not give up on you. • No remnant darkness is so deep that it is immune to light. Perhaps you’ve been grievously wronged sexually and have lived a nightmare. But you long for light. The longing for goodness and peace is a blossom of light pulling you in the direction of more light. • The discussion of the “classic troika of intertwining foes of light”. • In a nutshell, in each of the many forms of wrong, a person copulates with the wrong object of desire. Sexual love flourishes as a loving intimacy between a husband and wife. But desires are easily distorted and actions misdirected. Such miscopulation can occur either in reality or in fantasy. • God neither overvalues nor degrades the good things he has made. By realigning who you most love with all your heart, soul, mind, and might, he rightly orders all secondary loves. • The key to getting a long view of sanctification is to understand direction. What matters most is not the distance you’ve covered. It’s not the speed you’re going. It’s not how long you’ve been a Christian. It’s the direction you’re heading. • And there may be times when you’re not even moving—stuck in gridlock, broken down—but you’re still facing in the right direction. That’s Psalm 88, the “basement” of the Psalms. The writer feels dark despair—but it’s despair oriented in the Lord’s direction. In other words, it’s still faith, even when faith feels so discouraged you can only say, “You are my only hope. Help. Where are You?” That kind of prayer counts—it made it into the Bible. • You can increasingly view each human being as a sister or brother, a mother or father, a daughter or son—as someone to care for, not a sexual object. Your gaze and intentions can become more and more about caring and protecting. • The “I am with you” section. My list of highlights is too long. I recommend that you read the whole book.

Excellent, excellent book
One of the best books I have read on this subject; I work with sex offenders who are also often victims of abuse and wanted to see if this was a book I could recommend. This book goes talks about so much more than the outward sexual sins one can easily identify and then it points one to the hope and mercy of God. This is the first book I have read by Powlinson, but will read more of his work.

True Hope for the Sexually Broken!
Powlison has a unique ability to take the specifics of biblical truth and apply them to the deepest wounds of the human heart. Whether those wounds were caused by the evil of others or they are self inflicted, there is hope and healing in the cross! Buy this book! Give it to someone you know is struggling with sexual sin. Provide it for someone who needs the healing salve of God’s grace due to the abuse at the hands of others. There is practical wisdom in this book.

Great read on this timely topic
This is a very good book. It is initially based on his lecture at a Desiring God conference in 2004 and greatly expanded. He has such a wise outlook and helping concern for individuals who struggle with these issues and those who care for them. Very timely book. I recommend this book very highly.

This book deals with the victim and the abuser. I don't know any other book that does this. It is a short book but offers some.good guidance on how to approach your own sexual sin as well as bringing freedom into others lives. Would love a longer version with more case studies. Good book. Would recommend to everyone.

There are some life-changing truths contained in this book regarding how to approach sexual sin. There are a few chapters that are written a little too poetically, as it seems that Powlison tries to say too much with too few words, but once he moves to real life situations and practical, gospel-centered application, the book really shines.

Powlison brings God’s Word to bear on this vital issue that affects us all and is particularly effective in turning over every stone to examine what the underlying causes of our sexual malaises might be (disappointment, self-pity, etc). He looks at the subtlety of sinner but always the great mercies of our one Saviour Jesus who came not only to forgive but also to set free and transform forever.

I loved the brutally honest yet homelike references. The detailed encouragement that nudges us towards Christ and reminds us that we’re not alone. I’d say it’s a good introductory text for those wishing to read more about Gods heart towards the sexually violated in particular.
