Perfect for Notions and crafting storage - Mint size!
Great little tins, the size and build similar to Altoids mint containers. I use my leftover mint containers to store my crochet notions (sewing needles, stitch markers, small scissors), so I can easily grab the tin and throw it in the project bag I want to work on. But I only had 2 mint tins, so I bought these so I could have a bunch of notion containers ready to go. I bought the extra scissors and stitch markers on Amazon as well, divided up my craft sewing needles, and assembled them all in each tin. I usually have about 1/2 dozen projects going at a time, so now I don't have to play "find the notions box" when I'd rather just grab a kit bag as I'm running out the door to work or other places. Great tins for organization. The lids are attached so you can't lose them, and function fine. These are perfect for holding my notions when I'm on the go, and I love the dark gold color. I now have 10 kits prepared and I always have plenty available!

Nice economical shape, better than an Altoid tin
I was using a candy tin with the same measurements to pack some electronic equipment for travel, a small AM/FM radio and wired ear buds. The radio fit perfectly, but the earbuds could not squeeze in. I ordered these (actually by mistake, I didn't realize they were exactly the same dimensions as my container). I was going to cancel the order but they were on the way, so I waited. When they arrived, I could see that the angles in the corners of the containers were a little sharper. Still rounded, but not as much. So, I tried putting the radio in, and it fit (like it did in the other). But, there was more wiggle room because of the slightly better defined corners. It ended up providing another 3/16" of room inside, so that both the radio and the earbuds were easy to pack into it. Although the overall dimensions (L, W, and T) are identical to my original box, the volume is actually considerably larger! The only downside is that the bargain price per box required me to buy 6 of the even though I really only wanted one, but you know, it justifies the free shipping. Anyway, I can find uses for the rest. They are far sturdier than acrylic that is so common, and they aren't plasitic, but rather recyclable biodegradeable steel. Good product. Note that they also have hinges so that the lid can't get lost. I knew that when I bought them. Just realize that there is no way to make them air tight or water proof with the hinges. I would have preferred to buy a box with no hinges, but could not find any. No hinges would have provided some protection from water for this box, but that was not a priority, mainly I wanted to protect the radio and keep it together with the ear buds. Mission Accomplished!

PERFECT TO CHAR CLOTH or to use as Altoid size tins for purse, travel bag, bug out
Wanted to wait to write my review till after I tried them in the fire to make Char Cloth. These held up well through the first firing. Can't speak to later on, but there doesn't seem to be any issues and I plan to char more cloth in them. I tried charring the cloth two ways -- 1) WITH putting a small (very small) hole on top with the very tip of a steak knife, and 2) without a hole on top, trying to rely on the hinges to provide just enough air to char. WITH the hole on top is DEFINITELY better. They almost didn't char at all over 20 mins with no hole punched in top. Also -- I tried them with holes then another two ways 1) with ONLY about 6-8 pieces of 100% cotton Tshirt (cut to size of ID of tin) and 2) filling the tin with the pieces of cut-up cotton. With 6 - 8 pieces inside the tin, they charred beautifully on a Gas BBQ with the lid CLOSED in about 15 minutes. Using same technique but with MORE pieces inside, they didn't char at all even after 30. Both of these cans can small holes I punctured in the top. The second one was just too full. The fabric got slightly brown, but didn't char. I'll stick with 8 pieces and try 1 more, one at a time to fit the perfect amount to char in 20mins. They are the size of Altoids cans. I like the fact they are plain, without a coat of labeling ink. These FIT THE BILL for me. They would also work well as small packets inside my purse, bug out bag or travel bag as the lid is tight enough to hold in place but still easy enough to open.

Depending on your need...they work
This is a no frills box, it works for a variety of things, stays closed, opens fairly easily. They are durable and will last, we use to put fishing lures in them.

Excellent quality and size for emergency kits
If you look up DIY emergency kits, they almost always discuss small tins as the ideal size and makeup for a pocket or EDC (Every-Day-Carry) version. Years back, the only option was an Altoids mint tin. After chowing down a tin of "curiously strong" mints, VOILA! Instant emergency tin. But now, at nearly $5 a pop for the Altoids, you can turn to Amazon for an ideal alternative - in this case, for 1/4 the price of Altoids! I wasn't crazy about the gold color from an aesthetic standpoint, but as it turns out, it really doesn't matter. At the end of the day, function over form, and these tins are ideal for my needs! I've included examples of how I'm using them—in this case, for emergency medical tins that I keep in my BoB (Bug-out Bag). The 3.7" x 2.3" x 0.8" dimensions and 0.23mm thickness are ideal, making them strong but light enough to carry. If you are selective and good at space management, you can pack a whole lot of gear in these: fire starters, fishing hooks and line, utility knife blades, water purification tablets - you name it. Let your DIY imagination run wild! I can't stress enough the need to create an EDC emergency kit. You never know when you will have a breakdown or, if you are a camper, will get lost on a hike. Carrying an EDC emergency kit can make the difference between life and death. Just a reminder - you should also carry a good quality knife. Please check out my Amazon knife reviews for my thoughts on knives!
