Delicious, nutritious, ingenious - How Saturo changed my life
As a PhD researcher, time has always been a somewhat limited commodity for me. Though fast food options are aplenty these days, these are clearly not the most healthy option. And preparing a healthy meal can be both time consuming and costly. Herein lies the problem: a choice between time and health (and, for me, that equals science vs. health - and I love science!). But this dilemma may finally have a solution. I first heard about 'complete foods' a few years ago, when the first (Soylent) went on sale in the US. The idea: everything a person needs to live a healthy life, in the form of a powder you simply add water to and shake. Unfortunately though, Soylent did not (and still does not) ship to Europe. Since then, a number of companies have started producing complete foods in Europe. I've tried a few (Joylent, Huel, and Queal), but none of these powdered foods were quite what I was looking for. But then came Saturo. It is a pre-made 'ready to drink' liquid food that is a game changer. I first tried it a few months ago, and now replace about 80% of my meals with it. Why? Because it tastes amazing, it is filling, it makes me feel healthier than ever before, and (importantly!) it take 5 seconds to open a bottle containing a healthy meal :-) I mostly use Saturo if I need to work late in the evening and don't have time to spare preparing a meal (the original, neutral, flavour is great for this). I do also love to have the coffee one in the morning for breakfast - it tastes like a premium latte. The chocolate one tastes like chocolate milk, though you can also put it in the microwave for about 1.5 minutes to make a lovely hot chocolate. I've also taken it travelling, as it is a wonderful source of energy when hiking. It's also vegan and gluten-free. Personally, I've been a carnivore for my entire life, and never imagined that I'd find a vegan food that tastes nicer than meat. I kid you not, I'd rather drink this than have a steak... and I can't believe I just said that. What about disadvantages? Honestly, the only one is the cost. At the current Amazon price, it is £3.45 per meal. It is a little cheaper on the Saturo website (I get mine on a subscription for about £2.50 per meal). Amazon does deliver next day though, wheras if you order from Saturo directly it takes 4-5 days to ship to the UK (from Austria). The price aside though, I can't recommend it enough. If this is the future of food, then I was sold from the very first taste.

It's a meal raplacement shake, what do you expect...
If you're looking for a chocolatey delicious shake... You're probably not looking in the right place. These shakes aren't designed to be delicious. They're designed to meet dietary needs and be palatable. Smell - pretty neutral, doesn't smell like chocolate, smells like a meal replacement shake. Taste - you can taste chocolate, not milk chocolate, but a coco chocolate. Its palatable taste. Consistency - no lumps, no bumps, just a surprisingly smooth consistency. Price - overly priced like every shake on the market. I went for the saturo because its 100 extra more calories than its leading competitor. There isn't much to say really. Most shakes designed as meal replacements, are pretty bland and taste fine if you aren't picky. They're all seemingly made to meet dietary and nutritional needs. I don't exactly savour the taste as much as I drink it in one and go about my day knowing I've just had a meal. Pros - 500 calories per serving Smooth and palatable Seemingly dietary/nutritionally balanced Cons - Expensive

Tasty and Easy
I’ve found that working from home in quarantine is making lunchtimes feel like an incredible chore, so I did some research and chose these as the best option to try for meal replacement, as they don’t look to lose you weight or build muscle, they just replace food. I’m really loving them, it’s takes me minutes to drink for lunch and then I have an hour free to do other stuff and distract my brain a bit from work and home, and I’m really loving the gentle taste of them. I drink them chilled from the fridge and I’m definitely going to buy some more flavours to try (I’ve tried vanilla and really enjoy it) for some variety. I might keep getting these after quarantine and take them to work for some days lunches too! EDIT: Over a year later, I am back in the office at work, but still drinking these every day for lunch. I've tried some others in case I was missing something better or cheaper, but never liked them, these are my favourites and I buy three cases every month (or if Amazon don't have a supply of this flavour I buy straight from the manufacturers website, but delivery is from Germany and takes ages so I prefer Amazon when they have supplies). I've discovered also that they freeze and defrost fine - for a while I was in a temporary office with no fridge, so I froze a carton overnight, took it with me wrapped in some paper or cardboard to keep the cold, and had an icy drink to have come lunchtime (and sometimes a slush-puppy, which was really nice!).

best RTD replacement for soylent (UPDATE: 400ml regression)
remember the taste of the soylent RTD that was briefly available in the UK some time ago? saturo is 99% identical, but cheaper, with more available flavours, and two size options. perfect for those who want more of a drink instead of a milkshake. if you’re not already familiar with the taste: think chocolate cereal milk. great to see the company come this far after the launch of the original 500ml green bottle. my only complaint is that the package I received expires in two months - something that’s clearly been sitting in Amazon’s warehouse for quite some time - when the company states that these should have a 12 month shelf life. —- the above refers to the previous 330/500ml formula. the new 400ml bottles are using a new, and in my opinion inferior, formula. saturo is now slightly thicker, making it harder to drink. more importantly, the sweetener overpowers the chocolate flavour, and leaves a bad aftertaste. the ingredient list is simpler, sure, but it’s at the expense of taste. incredibly disappointing that saturo took a good product and made it worse. the fact that 330/500ml options are completely sold out and not being replenished on the main saturo store probably means they intend only to produce the 400ml version going forward, which I will not be purchasing. another one bites the dust.

Not for people with thyroid disease .
Nice flavour, just that. I initially thought this meal was perfect for my needs. No lactose, gluten free. I couldn’t ask for something better after a stressful research. Pity, after the third meal I had to stop the ‘treatment’ because I strangely felt very agitated and uncomfortable. I don’t know what’s wrong with this product yet but it’s much better a nutritionist’s consult especially if we have certain health conditions and we don’t know exactly the content of these drinks. Eat well Is the first step to lose weight.

Good, but too much vitamin D and too expensive
Great product for me. Has a chocolate taste but some hints of milk and aspartame (artificial sweetener) too. I'm fine with the sweetener, it's good that this drink is low in sugar and the sweeteners are safe to consume. Thanks for being gluten-free, unlike Soylent. It tastes fine at room temperature, there's no need to refrigerate before drinking like it says on the label in my opinion. Quite expensive however, even for 500 Calories. Worth noting that this DOES NOT make me feel full, so I'm sceptical of its abilities for weight loss. It's also less than 25% of my daily requirement as a moderately active person. It also contains vitamin D and, in the case of the coffee flavour, caffeine, both of which can cause insomnia if consumed in the evening. This is why vitamin D supplements say to consume them in the morning. So this might be better suited as a breakfast or lunch replacement.

I Really Don't Like Them.
I ordered these as my usual meal replacement shakes were out of stock and I need a ready to drink shake for my breakfast. I was hoping they would at least be ok, but they're not. the chocolate flavour is passable, but the texture of the drink is very unpleasant, powdery, almost chalky, with sometimes nasty clumps in it, even when you shake well before drinking. The drink isn't sweet at all, which makes it taste weird, the oats in it give it a horrible, almost green under taste and it left a terrible taste in my mouth which wouldn't wash away for a long time. Worst of all, instead of feeling full for a good four hours, I was hungry again within half an hour of drinking this. These shakes were very expensive, and in these days wasting food is not to be thought of, so I will have to drink another ten of these, but it's not going to be fun, and I certainly won't buy anymore.

Helpful to up your calories!
I bought these for post double jaw surgery as I'm struggling to get enough food in with being on a liquid diet mostly, so these helped to supplement my food and help to keep me full. Nice vanilla flavour, not too sweet. They are quite expensive but I bought them as was struggling to find a dairy and gluten free version of "fortisips". I've also tried their strawberry flavour and have yet to try the chocolate flavour.
