Well made product
I bought the Fine & Extra-fine versions of this to compliment an ADD Tactical wallet strop loaded with polish compound. All result in a very useful & portable setup that's capable of returning an edge to working conditions while camping or hunting. Do not mistake these for a primary sharpening device as that is not their intended purpose.A couple of pet peeves I have are misleading 'product dimensions' & useless reviews on Amazon. In the text of the 'Description' for this item are the actual dimensions for this item:3-1/4" X 2" X 0.05" (just under 1/16")However, under 'Features & details' it says that the Product Dimensions are 8.5 X 3.5 X 3.5 inches. This is the size of the blister pack (though it's certainly not 3.5 inches 'thick'). This might mislead some to conclude that what they're getting is something bigger. My second pet peeve is the useless negative reviews like 'received wrong item'; 'go to Lowe's'; 'too small to be much use'; & (my personal favorite) 'didn't work'.How is a packaging error by Amazon any reflection on the product & why do they allow the 'review' to be posted? If you didn't like the price or the size, just return it. If it didn't work, guess what? You're using it wrong! These sharpeners work well but the small size & your ability limit how refined an edge you can get. Mostly your ability. Practice practice practice.Hope this review helps. Cheers!

Perfect sharpener for hooks
Easily fits into your wallet. Just a couple of passes to get razor sharp point on fishing hooks. Used often still as good as the day I received it. AAA+

Nice Product
I have never owned a tool like this and it is easy to use.It does sharpen knifes, my axe, and chisels nicely. You wet the credit card size tool and guide your tool at a 20 degree angle and that is it. In a few strokes nice results. You have to moisten the card with water but I had to add often. It is not a big deal. You clean it with regular dish soap and use a stiff scrubbie to clean. Than rinse and pat dry. It comes with a plastic case to protect it. I bought an extra fine one but may get a fine one when I place an order with Amazon. I like that it is made in the USA and always look to purchase our products even if it cost slightly more. I highly recommend this product and my German made woodworking knifes and scalpels are like new. Hobbyist will like this tool very much.

Not super pleased but a great value
I bought the extra fine 1200g card to complement my 300/600 one from Trend, mostly for touching up carbide on router bits. This will work ok for that but unfortunately the quality of DMT has dropped for these items. The grit is pretty uneven and unfortunately for me the very edges of the card seem barren in places - and yes, there are boulders strewn here and there but those should knock off with a brief break in using some decent steel. More alarming just viewing it in the package is that they are not deburring the stamped plates very well before they get the diamond applied...had to touch up four places along three of the sides. Maybe it reflects the price but I know DMT makes some great products, and they're here at home, so I would love to get a better quality card from them even if it costs a little more.Compared to the Trend, and knowing that the Trend quality isn't quite what is used to be either, I would recommend spending more for the Trend instead (for router bits anyway). The Trend card is thicker, so it will handle more pressure with carbide and it won't bow when held in vise jaws if that's more convenient for working. The Trend card is a tad longer as well, but additionally, the corner radius is smaller. With the DMT length and the larger corner radius it effectively loses almost an inch of stroke length meaning more work for me and less life for the card. The diamond is probably the same, all things considered, but the Trend card is just better although the cost is 2-3 times higher.Other than that these are still decent and the price is a great value. I think they're better for knives and scissors than for carbide router bits. I wouldn't mind if the vinyl pouch was a bit larger and with a flap, too, for complete enclosure. These work great with fluids, too, just use it smart, clean it well after use, and dry before storing (a hair dryer for a minute can ensure all moisture is gone before you put it away).

Great X-acto blade sharpener
I use X-acto knives on a daily basis and this extra fine sharpening card gives me a razor sharp edge every time. It's the perfect size to fit in my everyday toolbox and after 4 months daily use its still as good as new (I just wash the residue and add a drop of oil when needed). I used to run through approximately 50+ blades a month and it just seemed wasteful. Since purchasing this item I recycle my used blades and have grown to enjoy sharpening them. Cant recommend this item enough!

Easy to pack and travel with
Perfect size to carry in a wallet. Excellent for sharpening on the go. Also works well in my fly fishing vest to sharpen hooks.

Product shipped was damaged
There are fairly deep scratches over the face of the stone and chips along two edges. These scratches catch the knife and make it unusable. I am dissapointed because I recently bought a fine DMT credit card sharpener. I want to return it but do not want to pay the return fee.

Very handy for travel
Bought these to finish off my pocket knife. A little heavy to keep in your wallet all the time, but compact and handy for sure. The slip case is great and has some grit info on the back too.

Handy and Effective
Great sharpener, needs used right and is limited by the same things as any other continuous surface sharpener (see below). On the other hand, being so thin, it's ideal for putting an edge back on slightly worn router bits. The smooth surface is great for sharpening points and small blades which usually get stuck or damaged on the holes of perforated type sharpeners. The edge it leaves is pretty good, smooth and ready for a final hone if you want a razor sharp finish. I carry this in my pocket while chiselling to touch up the edge when it starts to blunt in hardwood - takes a couple of strokes! As with all diamond sharpeners, clean it off regularly and never press too hard - the diamonds are tiny but sharp - they do the work for you, pressing harder might temporarily speed the sharpening up a bit, but it wears the diamond coating far faster, and can strip them out of the metal backing they're bedded into.At first the diamond coating takes a little bit of use to "wear in" to the correct grit and "smoothness" you'd expect from an Extra Fine card. This is true of every diamond sharpener I've ever seen. I find that simply rubbing the flat of an old knife over the surface for a short while does this quickly and effectively. You can feel the difference with your finger after just a dozen strokes or so.Having no perforations or dents in this design makes it far more prone to clogging. With a continuous surface like this, when you notice it clogging, take it to the sink and give it a scrub with pretty much any abrasive "cream cleaner" and it comes up like new. A handy tip to get it clean if it's resisting is to use a piece of cork (wine bottle one will do) to rub the cleaner into the surface thoroughly - stops you scouring off your fingerprints!
