Q: My jar only had a lid on it, no seal. Is that normal? I'm concerned about consuming it.

We recently purchased this and also threw it in the trash, the seal was not attached to the jar and the tallow smelled rancid.

Q: Why does this need to be refrigerated after opening? I am going to make lotion and do not plan of refrigerating it.

I don’t refrigerate. It makes it way too hard and not user friendly. I have bought other brands and keep it in the cupboard. I use tallow all the time in my recipes and have never had a problem
