Well, after a couple of exciting grease fires in the BBQ (we use it 2 - 3 times a week year 'round), I put "clean BBQ" to pop up on my calendar reminders 1/month. Heh. So today is the day the reminder comes up but two days ago I see black smoke coming out of the hood. Open it up (with gloves on) and, oooops, I've got the entire pan involved and ~18" flames. Took the pork chop off first, then reached for the fire extinguisher. Bad news: I took off the protective cap and the spray cap came with it. Good news: fortunately, it didn't drop beneath the deck so I grabbed it, put it back on, the 4 quick & short sprays and the fire went out. Pretty impressive (4 burner BBQ). So, a good product and I just have to be careful when I take off cap. Not sure of toxicity of product but spent yesterday morning cleaning grate & pan which, heh, had to be done anyway. Kinda sorta saved the pork chop -- a bit blackened, and not my finest effort, but edible.

I’m bought this in June because my apartments have fire extinguishers in the hall and suppression sprinklers but if a small fire broke out it my apartment the thought of running out to get a fire extinguisher the run back in didn’t make sense. I am glad I had it on hand! Shortly after midnight (while I was decorating for fall/thanksgiving) I heard my neighbor’s fire alarm going off. Now, we’ve had several false alarms in the past month but when I heard her run out into the hall and smash the glass for the fire extinguisher I knew this wasn’t a fluke. I grabbed my 5-in-1 and ran over to her apartment. She had sprayed EVERYWHERE EXCEPT the base of the fire. We were in a cloud of fire extinguisher powder but I could see the base of the flame. Took the cap off, aimed, and sprayed. It’s a lot more of a liquid than expected, but it does have reach so I was far back from the flames. This little bottle did what the pressure powder hadn’t, the flame was out. Fire department showed up shortly after and all is well.

I started a grease fire and within seconds flames were licking the outside of my electric grill. Probably why BBQ aren't allowed on apartment balconies -_-. Just ONE of these cans put out the fire. Such a close call. I recommend you buy more than one in case all logic leaves the brain and you some how aim anywhere but the fire. Good to have a back up. I used the entire bottle Update: I contacted the manufacturer and had a quick response. I just cleaned the grill with soap and water, cleaned the excess grease like I should have done before, and now I cook on it again. So far I'm 0-1 in not burning down the place. Ordered 3 more extinguishers. Update update: I'm still alive and not poisoned from using the grill again.
