I am looking for the right size for an ipad pen/stylus. i think blue, but i can't be sure? these pens are extremely expensive so i need a good fit.

The UltraGrip will stretch to fit an ipad pen/stylus. The size of the grip refers to the size of the persons hand who will be using it. General guideline for choosing sizes. Medium will work for most women's hands and for smaller men's hands. Order the Large Black for larger hands and the Small Yellow for children's hands.

Is it possible to type without putting the pen/pen grip down?

It takes some practice, but you can do 9 finger typing, I do it by using my right thumb instead of my right index finger for the Y,H,N,U,J,M letters. You can also do hunt and peck typing while wearing the Ultra-Grip.
