Best upgrade for F-150!
Installed these shocks onto the rear of my 2017 F-150 Lariat 4x4 at factory ride height. Installation took about 10 minutes total for both sides, and they can (and should!) be installed with the truck on the ground, no lift or jack required. Tools required include a ratchet, 15mm Socket, an 18mm Wrench, and (ideally) a torque wrench. I would highly recommend replacing the factory bolts and nuts with new ones, regardless of visual condition, as the factory nuts are of the self-locking variety and thus not designed for reuse. Regarding performance, the factory shocks on the F-150 are not ideal and in some cases potentially dangerous. This is especially noteworthy when hauling near the payload capacity, towing heavy loads, or when the rear suspension encounters some type of shock that needs to be damped (An example of which would be how the rear end gets loose driving over speed humps or railroad tracks). These shocks greatly improve the rear end stability of the vehicle, and handling is much more predictable and improved in all of the aforementioned scenarios. And while shocks are not an adequate replacement for an anti-roll bar, they do improve cornering stability in a noteworthy manner. While the shocks improve handling performance, they do impact the ride quality SLIGHTLY. Whether this is perceived as a negative or positive impact is likely down to the preferences of the person driving the vehicle, but it does result in the rear suspension feeling a little less like a cloud (Vibrations are damped faster than stock), and slightly more firm. Again, this difference is noticeable but not significant. At the end of the day, the truck still will still ride like a high-quality truck. We're just talking about a shock absorber change, so don't expect a small change to cause the truck to feel like it now has independent rear suspension. Overall, In my opinion, these shocks are one of the best upgrades for the money that you can make to your Ford truck as long as you know what to expect out of them. And you can install them with simple hand tools in your driveway in a couple of minutes.

Good investment for F-150 Owners
Installed these Bilstein 5100's on the rear of my 2018 F-150 Super Crew a few days ago. There is a noticeable difference in the trucks ride that I experienced immediately. The rear end on my truck has been what I can only describe as "twitchy" since I bought it 2 months ago. Bumps were not absorbed and the rear end was always feeling like it was not planted over bumps. After the Bilstein installation, the rear end now absorbs small bumps so I don't feel them, the wheels stay planted on medium bumps, and on large holes and speed bumps the rear end still jumps off the ground (but not as much as it used to). I would definitely advise any new F-150 owner to change to these right away and throw away the crap that came on the truck from the factory. When I pulled off the factory shocks, I tested them for compression and rebound...much worse than the 5100's. The factory shocks had some gas in them, but not much. Also, the travel was not smooth like the 5100's. After compressing them a few times, I was not surprised why the rear end was so twitchy from the factory. I can't speak to the longevity of the 5100's, but my initial impression is that they are definitely worth the $150 investment. Installation took about 30 minutes. No need to jack up the truck, install can be performed with truck at ride height on the ground. A couple of metric wrenches, a torque wrench, a small pry bar, and blue LocTite is all you need to change the 2 rear shocks. Torque spec for my truck was 66 ft. pd. for both top and bottom bolts. The upper nut on the drivers side was a little weird. It had no place for a wrench...instead it has a large tab welded on that hit the frame and kept it from spinning when I loosened the bolt...whatever works, not sure why Ford decided to do this on 1 of 4 nuts. UPDATE: Have been driving on these 2 rear Bilstein's for about 3 weeks now. It seems to me that they are "breaking in" a bit. Ride seems even better than when I first installed them. Almost makes me sad that I don't have the money to replace the front shocks as they feel like garbage compared to the rears. Bumps are no longer something I try to avoid...just plow right on through! I put these on a 24 month lease truck and I think it was $150 well spent. UPDATE: Moved these 5100's to a 2019 F150 with no issues. Been driving on them for over 10,000 miles so far between 2 trucks with zero problems. At my next lease change, I expect to move them again. Great investment!

Check the directions as to how to mount the shock
Excellent shock no instructions the problem as to way you need instructions is that the soft boot goes down not up as most shocks it would have been nice for a simple picture to explain the direction

Much better then stock. Rear end of truck would bounce sideways across tracks or uneven road. Straight and solid not after these. Ride is firmer buy better and more controlled, not sure how they achieved this but it works, im guessing better rebound then stock shocks. Either way great addition to the truck.

I had a leaking OEM shock with 80000km that I realized made my rear end hop around. Well, what a difference these have made..truck is more planted, barely feel bumps from the back end now. Only downside is it has made me realize that my fronts need to be replaced to match the quality of the new rear bilsteins lol. I hear quite a bit about corrosion to these shocks from salt after even just one winter season.. will update my review if this happens to mine

I have a 2017 F-150 crew cab with the 5.0 and it was riding rough and bouncy since I got it. The truck was levelled by previous owner so I assumed it might be that but as time passed I realized it's the bank end bouncing more than it should (even on regular roads). I read that these belsteins would help resolve that issue. Well today I installed them and noticed an immediate improvement. Truck is not bouncy any more and backend feels firmer like an SUV, which may not sound great but it actually absorbs bumps better and you feel more comfortable driving the truck. As for bigger bumps like speed bumps and rail road cross the truck feels much better than before, only a single bounce and alot more comfortable. Overall I am very pleased with the results, wifey also noticed that the truck is more comfortable now. I hear there is a couple of week break in period where the shock will get even better so finger crossed 😅 If you have a 2015+ F-150 I highly recommend it, the aluminum body makes the truck bed super light and bouncy, which is not good, if your like me an drive with almost an empty bed and larger (34inch tires) then you need this
