My six year old loves it
My six year old loves it! I bought it to have some fun activities to do during the day since we spend so much time at home with the pandemic. He wishes there were more mazes but you can’t fault the makers of the book (I didn’t even know mazes were his favorite thing. 🤷🏻♀️)I love the variety and I love that it’ll help him practice reading and writing in a fun way.

Good quality and content!
My five and a half year old son really enjoys this book. This book not only has puzzles, it also has a lot of interesting fun facts. There is something to read and learn on each page. It is challenging and keeps him thinking. He does not have the knowledge to complete all of the pages yet. Some parts are for older kids, maybe 7-8 years old.

Kept my daughter entertained
My daughter started this during preschool (age 3-4) and loved it. The activities was fun for her, which kept her entertained while also engaging thinking processes. For reference, she started reading chapter books at age 5.

How is this so popular?
I bought this book to eventually use as an activity book for my son during our homeschooling day. I’m so glad that I decided to try it myself first before giving this to my son. This book is single-handedly one of the most frustrating puzzle books that I’ve ever encountered. There are many activities for which the directions are not clear on how to complete the activity (I’m looking at you, Octo-Puzzle section). Many activities don’t have a solution listed in the back of the book other than “if the child can provide a reasonable solution, it’s correct”- even when it’s an activity that DOES have a quantifiable answer. Several of the crossword puzzles contain errata or feature topics that are far and away too difficult for 6-8 year olds, such as a geometry puzzle with clues so poorly written that even my husband who’s an engineer had trouble deciphering them. Many of the word puzzles feature phrases that are outdated and hardly used, so it’s clear that this book hasn’t been updated since the ‘90s. The vocabulary and cultural references are way above what a 6-8 year old could possibly understand. For example, what 6 year old would ever know the phrase “be made a cat’s paw”? There is also a substantial part of this book that requires two people to complete the activities. While my son is an only child and I’m more than willing to do these with him, if you are looking for an entirely solo experience for your child this isn’t it. Yes, you could have your child skip those pages, but it’s about 25-30 pages worth of material and when this book is $13, that’s not acceptable. Lastly, I want to touch on the visuals in this book or the lack thereof. While there are some sections featuring beautiful artwork, it’s clear that this book is a compilation of many other books, so that nice artwork isn’t included throughout the entirety of the book. For the sections that don’t have the beautiful artwork, it can often render the activities completely impossible to do. Hidden picture or spot the difference activities are a nightmare due to the sloppy appearance of the artwork. There are several activities that ask the child to identify 3-D shapes, but the drawings aren’t done in a way to differentiate shapes that are 3-D and those that aren’t. There is an activity that asks a child to identify different monuments located in Washington D.C. The renderings of the monuments (picture included in review) are so poorly done that the activity isn’t possible to finish. All in all, it’s plainly obvious that School Zone is riding on its popularity and market share from the ‘90s and early ‘00s. While School Zone used to be the only option for children’s activity books and workbooks, that is no longer the case. There are companies, such as Highlights, who put out brilliant work for a similar price point to School Zone.I don’t recommend this book in any way, shape, or form.

Love these
I love the School Zone books. They all have great and engaging activities and tear out pages which is helpful for printing or if you're like us, we put them in page protectors and use dry erase marker so we can use them again. There are lots of pages in these ones too! Really happy with these.
