This cable is not the correct one to pair with the GoPro mic adapter for the GoPro Hero5/6/7/8/9 Black. The standard smartphone (IE Apple, Samsung) mic input is through "Headphone" jack. This cable is designed to input audio into the smartphone so that the smartphone sees it as an audio input and any audio recorder will record the audio. It will not work with a non-smartphone audio recorder because smartphones using a different standard than a traditional audio recorder.

Q: Can I record video from iPhone 6 while recording audio transmission or is this strictly for audio recording only?

You can record audio and video. This doesn't affect the video transmission, instead of recording outside noises with the phone mic, it will record the audio that is coming from the audio cable
