Q: Can't use #8 wire with 45 amp connector? Why does a 45amp connector max out at 30amp wire?

The popular 15/30/45 amp connectors use the same plastic housing. Maybe there is not enough room for #8 wire. In other words, if the 45 amp metal crimp connector were large enough to accept #8 wire, it might not fit into the plastic housing. The company does offer other connectors that are rated up to 180 amps.

The units I received from my Amazon order were robust, finely detailed components. I believe that they were genuine Anderson. As "Anderson" is a protected trademark, it wold take considerable effort to slip counterfit parts thru the Amazon system.

Q: do these come with the roll pin?

No, there are no retaining pins in this package of connectors. The pins are easy to find as stand-alone items on the sites of various Internet vendors. I am no powerpole expert, but it appears that the pins are most useful for chassis-mounted connectors. When hooking up two pairs of wires, the powerpoles by themselves form snug and secure connections.
