FeinFMM350QSL MultiMaster QuickStart StarlockPlus Oscillating Multi-Tool with snap-fit accessory change

I grew tired of using a cheap quality multi tool from the big orange home center so I began researching the newest models available. From past experience using the fein multimaster almost 10 years ago I knew how great they were but at the time almost $600 and the blades were hard to come by, that's how I ended up with the under powered, noisy, vibrating tool from the homeless deathspot because it was cheap and used cheap blades. So when I found the newer fein models had came down drastically in price and they have the awesome starlock tooless blade attachement system I knew that this one was the one to buy. I have used it for cutting out 2x4s around windows on a remodel job, cutting siding nails flush on the inside of the sheathing, grinding grout out of an 8x10 tile bathroom (with the carbide blade), cutting johni bolts, etc... and it has performed amazingly!PROS: the body is made out of a nice abs or pa6 (haven't taken apart) with a grippy overmolding that feels nice in the hand.-long cord, this makes it way more convenient- soft start motor, initially I didn't think this was a big deal but the more I use it the more I like how it doesn't jump out of your hand as soon as you turn it on- power/adjustment. has plenty of power cutting through wood and nails. also, the level adjustment actually works and you can tell a big difference from 1-6 unlike some of the knock offs that does not seem to change motor output at all- starlock, this system is awesome! changing blade position for varying cuts is quick and easy now. on my old multitool I had to use a hex wrench and fumble around with a bolt. those days are long gone and pull the lever it ejects the blade then simply snap the blade into the next position you want.- the tool case is pretty nice has two boxes for blade storage and the tool fits nicely inside.CONS- First lets kill the elephant in the room and get cost out of the way. the multimaster is a little pricey and the blades are absurd and to date cannot use knock offs.... but the quality of the tool totally offsets cost and the blades made by fein and bosch are way way way better than the chinesium blades so buy the good ones and they last a lot longer anyway- I really wish that it had a built in led like some of the competitors- at least for this kit I think it should include the dust collector for the price point. cutting drywall and grinding grout gets very dusty and it would be nice to have that included with the multitool not just the top end kit- While it is a positive for durability, the cord having the anti bend point at the end of the handle makes it 4" longer so accessibility is affected in some scenariosOverall. This multimaster is probably the most wel rounded multitool on the market. buy the quality tool for a little more money and even though the starlock forces you to buy the expensive blades, the expensive blades in my experience last longer cut better and give you a better user experience.

I have owned an older version of the multitool and upgraded to the Fein MultiMaster Quickstart (with the Starlock Plus system) this year. Fein MultiMaster is a lovely tool because it makes all those jobs where you have to cut very close to molding, or cut hardware cloth, or cut square corners in wall board, or cut in confined spaces, actually a pleasure to do, instead of a pain. I have done all these things without a multitool, but Fein makes this all go so smoothly and quickly, with higher precision and much faster then I could do most of these things with conventional hand tools. The Starlock system is a modest advance, I think, over the older Fein system, but it is fast and precise in changing blades and it is particularly easy to eject blades. I concur with other reviewers that Starlock comes with the disadvantage that it allows Fien to charge a premium for their blades, but the cost is not going to break my bank and I have found Fein blades to be more durable than those of off-brand manufacturers. I also like that my new Fein comes in a sturdy plastic box--just the thing for keeping all the blades and tool parts in one place when crawling through the attic! I gave my old Fein Multitool to my sister (who is battling rats living inside the walls of my Mom's house) because her need was greater than mine. But then, in hunting for a replacement, I looked around to see if there was a better or cheaper tool on the market. I stuck with Fein because they have the highest quality multitool on the market. I appreciate tools that work with no fuss, are solidly built, reliable, and that are as versatile as this one. Those words all apply to the Fein MultiMaster....

This is a versatile, well built tool. The Starlock quick release system is effortless. You no longer have deal with the set screw (no matter how hard I tightened it would eventually back out) and proprietary hex key. I will always long for the steel cases of yesteryear. That said, the plastic case is pretty sturdy and the inner compartments are great. This latest version of the Multimaster has become an essential part of my kit. If I'm on a job site it's with me, frame-to-finish. Fein blades are expensive but you get what you pay for. I've doing this for a minute so noise and vibration are big deal to me. I've used most of the other brands at one point or another. This is the lowest decibel and least vibratory that I've tried (I haven't tested the Festool). Last but not least, I beat the hell out of this it. Almost 4 years later and she still works like a charm. If you're a construction professional take the hit and buy it.

I am a contractor and a multi-tool is a must have. The problem is most of them fail within the first year. The one I purchased before this, from a company I had purchased three before, failed so quickly the company was replacing it for almost free. I was supposed to pay shipping and sales tax. Something in me told me to pay the considerable difference between this and the Fein. It was a smart move, this is clearly a superior tool to the others out there. The ease of use is very nice with blades that just pop on and release quickly and easily. The long cord is very nice allowing me to use the tool many places I had to use extension cords for before. The case is practical, and light. The power is wonderful! I seldom ever turn it past the halfway point. I love this tool!
