I tried a few so-called thunderbolt-compatible short cables first, but those were USB C 3.2 cables that lacked the chip needed to ensure true thunderbolt throughput. This is a true, certified Thunderbolt 3 jumper cable that ensures maximum performance with thunderbolt devices. I wouldn't have thought it would matter in connecting a USB 3.2 SSD to a thunderbolt 4 hub, but the USB 3.2 cables I tried yielded read/write speeds that were a good 25% less than with this thunderbolt cable. Worse, there were frequent, unexplained disconnects that were eliminated by using this cable. I did not rate this cable as highly for sturdiness or durability, as it's a thin cable that could easily be damaged with frequent manipulation. It's perfect, however, for making a short connection to a device that's always plugged in.
