Yup, we don't use this cooler for a "cooler". If you want a great Dry Box, to keep things dry, I recommend this marine cooler. We've tried dry bags, much more expensive and smaller sealed dry boxes. We have a 2004 Pontoon boat with no actual dry storage areas. We've had the 48 quart version for 1.5 years on the boat and everything from tools, clothes, cooking utensils, spices, first aid kit, etc, etc, have stayed bone dry. I'm talking about wind and spray waves that routine batter over the sides of the boat while docked and with gusts of 30 to 50 mph plus routine in the pouring rain and even hail, sleet, and snow on the downwind side of a lake that has over 5 miles to build up the fetch in the mountains of Maine. Also, almost every night has excessive dew points and it's not uncommon to go several days with misty damp air green algae loves to grow on the boat the climate is so damp. Not once has water leaked through, and everything has stayed bone dry despite there not being a waterproofing seal. I think it actually helps because when the sun does come out, any moisture that may be in the cooler is allowed to escape as daytime heating expands the air inside. A seal would trap any moisture you may accidentally or have to put inside during a wet situation. Naturally, we never put anything in that is damp, but it's been incredible through 1.5 full seasons. Nothing has been remotely damp. We also keep three of these for our grocery runs and sort the groceries into these once we get to our vehicle. Not once have we had to empty water from the cooler versus the regular coolers. Sort your groceries yourself from the cart or while doing pick-up...
