Essdee Lino Cutting & Printing Kit (23 Pieces), One Size

I haven't done any relief printing in a long, long time so this kit, with everything needed to get started again except paper, looked a good way of trying linocut again. I wasn't disappointed. It is really well designed and of good quality with everything you need to cut and print. The instructions are pretty clear and there are enough different materials - classic lino, soft cut and stamp blanks - to give you a chance to try out many different projects. I was impressed with how nicely the cutter handle fitted into the hand making it comfortable to use for long periods and at the inclusion of a practice piece of lino to try out the cutters. (I recommend mounting your lino on something - I used a couple of layers of cardboard - before you start cutting and frequently check the progress of how your block is going to look by taking a rubbing with thin paper and a wax crayon. Using some non-slip rubber matting on your table-the kind you bung under rugs - makes cutting much easier and all the bits stay on it rather than going everywhere.) Unlike many kits Essdee sell all the stuff separately so you can replenish your lino, ink, cutters etc and keep using it or expand on it. This is a well made set which is very good value for money and a great way of getting printing.

Anni fa seguii un workshop di linoleografia con dei professionisti, ma purtroppo non proseguii per mancanza di contatti con altri che praticassero la stessa tecnica. Peccato. Oggi, dopo un video corso, mi è tornata la voglia di lavorare e ho preso questo kit su suggerimento di un collega. Sono soddisfatta per tutta una serie di motivi: - ci sono più tipi di linoleum di diverse durezze, anche se piccoli (A5 al massimo) - il rullo è ben bilanciato e relativamente pesante, meglio di quanto mi aspettassi - le sgorbie fanno il loro mestiere, pur non essendo chiaramente nulla di professionale - il pressino è pratico per riporre le sgorbie stesse - il kit è completo di un generoso tubo di inchiostro nero - c'è un vassoio che si intende per inchiostrare, ma che io userò probabilmente per tenere fermo il linoleum quando incido (e inchiostrerò su una lastra di vetro) - c'è un utilissimo aggeggio rosso, con alette e a forma di quarto-di-sfera che serve a proteggervi le mani quando tagliate. Evita quindi che vi piantiate una sgorbia nelle dita quando violerete la prima regola d'oro di ogni tecnica di incisione > NON INCIDETE MAI IN DIREZIONE DELLE VOSTRE MANI, MA SEMPRE IN SENSO OPPOSTO Una nota tecnica: per fissare la punta metallica della sgorbia dovete prima mettere in posizione l'anello di metallo a vite, senza stringerlo. Poi mettere la punta in posizione, poi serrare il tutto. Diversamente la curva della punta vi bloccherà l'anello perché di diametro maggiore. Il manico del pressino è anche il manico della sgorbia, cui attaccare la punta: in questo le foto posso trarre in inganno. Non ci sono un pressino e una sgorbia, ma un unico strumento con due funzioni. Quando chiudete il pressino non avvitate troppo o rischiate di faticare per svitare via il manico. Per 30 euro è un kit molto ricco, di una buona marca da studenti. Si presenta molto bene ed è certamente anche un bel regalo. Amazon e corriere impeccabili come sempre, soprattutto perché acquistato sotto le feste di Natale.

This is a very good starter kit. It has everything in it that you need to try out lino cutting and block printing. The knife is very easy to use and the blades are inside the barren.

This has been the beginning of a new hobby and now almost an obsession. I was interested in starting doing Linocut a couple of months ago and so far I've been buying new Linoleum blocks and I'm learning new techniques and testing new tools and it all started with this small kit. Also the pad for printing does a good job.Also the ink that comes with this kit is pretty nice as well. . The only criticism is the "guard" or "shield" to protecting your hands or fingers, it is pretty useless and occupies a lot of space I haven't used it and it is so cumbersome to try to use it with the sheets that come with this kit.
