Solid Grate
Re-doing an older Weber Smokey Joe, and couldn't find a stock lower charcoal grill (wire style) in town. I ordered the appropriate sized one, and just got it this afternoon. First up, it fits the Smokey Joe perfectly. Secondly, this grate is thick and heavy Cast Iron - it reminds me of the old cast iron hibachi grills I grew up with, it's solid. Haven't cooked with it yet - I feel it should be seasoned first - similar to seasoning anything Cast Iron. I'll just use Crisco (old school) to do that, but I imagine the hot coals directly on the surface might burn off the factory oils (which is good.) Seasoning or not - or whether it develops rust isn't a big deal really..... it would take a massive amount of rust to render it unusable. It will probably last 20 to 50 years if taken care of. I'll still try to season it a few times with oil, and just roll with it. Once I get some cooks done, I will update.

Fait une excellente Job
La grille me permet de garder mon charbon plus longtemps avant qu’il ne tombe dans les trous. Beaucoup plus facile de monter ma température de mon kettle
