It's the third of Quinn's novels that I've read, and I love her more with each book. She has a knack for blending history and fictional elements into truly intriguing and memorable stories that open up windows into historical events and the real people involved in those events. The research Quinn must have done for this novel boggles the mind, but she doesn't overwhelm the readers with all she learned, so the story never gets lost in the midst of all the facts. Character development is excellent; I really, really loved the three main protagonists. I could hear their voices, feel their joys and frustrations and heartbreak and fear, and marveled at their resilience and intelligence. Quinn is a master at making her characters leap off the page and come to life. This novel has made me want to know more about the tremendous work and contributions of those who worked at Bletchley Park. I appreciate Quinn's habit of including further reading suggestions at the end of her novels for those who definitely want to know more of the actual people and events that inspired her stories. I will most definitely read more by Quinn. Review: A Beautiful Novel - I loved this book and didn't want to put it down. Kate Quinn excels at three things I look for in a novel - interesting and likable characters (even when they're flawed), an engaging storyline, and historical context that teaches the reader about a time and place in a beautiful way. I did not know about the code breaking of WWII and I fell in love with every character. I also appreciate how Quinn portrayed the people whose unique talents played such an important role in history, those who were otherwise outcasts of society, likely neurodiverse before we knew what that was, and I believe now more than ever, knowing history and realizing people whose brains work differently have always existed is critical to understanding our current world.

Intriguing WW2 Code breakers
The background history of the book was good and set me researching the real stories of it as I read this mostly fictional account of the workers at Bletchley Park during WW2. The characters and settings were very real and even after finishing stay with you. My only problem with the book was it seemed long and drawn out and I skimmed parts to get to the story many times. Overall though a good and engrossing read.

An Excellent Read!!
I started reading the sample of this book and became so invested in it, that I absolutely had to buy it. It is one of the best books I think I have ever read… It is not classic literature, but the characters are so fully developed that as a reader, I wanted to spend time with them, and see what happened, not only to the characters, but to how Britain secretly used some of the best and brightest people in win the war. The patois/dialects were created and used seemingly with perfect accuracy making the characters exceedingly believable. The story demonstrated the author’s deep understanding of the many aspects of this war—a war waged physically and another behind-the-scenes battle. Three unlikely female candidates determined to do their part for England’s defense find themselves working as codebreakers during the Second World War. As unlikely as as it is to find (for that timeframe) women in such incredibly important positions, they are also—at first glance—unlikely to become friends. The history of the thousands of men and women who worked in code-breaking during WWII is fascinating… (Perhaps reminding some Americans of the important role that Navajo Native Americans played in coding and deciphering coded messages in the US during the same war.) The author’s writing is real meat-and-potatoes stuff; the words literally seem to fly off the pages. I felt the length was perfect giving me enough time to know and to connect with the characters: to laugh with them, and also to mourn with them—for after all, this is a novel set in war time. The characters are so well developed that the loss of loved ones felt very real to me —enough so that these parts of the story were heartbreaking. And while these friends are separated, each one feeling betrayed by another, their dedication to their country and also to their friendship eventually brings them together along with some great plot twists and surprises. There is even some intrigue introduced when Osla first suspects something shady is going on. We also witness how a person can delude him/herself into believing that he/she can do anything and justify it in the name of patriotism. This was a tough book to put down. I recommend it without hesitation.

History Well Told
The story was so intriguing. It was a special treat for me as my mother in law was a crytographer during the war. She experienced the bombing of England while being underground. Osla, Mab and Beth were so well enbedded in the story that you just couldn't wait to turn the page to see what was going to happen to one of them or all three. The ending was absoutely spot on. This was my first book by Kate Quinn, but will not be my last.

Worth it
The Rose Code is a smart, engaging novel that shifts not only between three distinct female perspectives but also across multiple time periods. Each chapter adds a new layer, and the changing viewpoints keep the story fresh while deepening the emotional impact. Absolutely worth the read for anyone who enjoys richly structured historical fiction.

Historical Fiction Gem
I mean, it's not a beach read or vacation read... but if you want a historical fiction with suspense, romance, royal family and strong female characters, give it a go! NOTE: It did drag on in places. FAVE PART: The romance between the amazon and her poet. (No names, no spoiler) It was written exquisitely.

Read Well into the Night!
I literally couldn't put this book down! It kept me on my toes and reading into the wee hours of the night! I would recommend this book to those historical fiction lovers! Incredible style of writing and chapters taking place in past tense while others were in later years.

5 star read. I love Kate Quinn's books and this is one of my favourites so far. Quinn takes us to England in 1940. Three different women are selected to work at what they discover to be Bletchley Park as codebreakers. Wealthy deb Osla (dating Prince Philip no less), Mab-a girl from the rough part of town, and Beth-a girl demeaned by her overbearing mother who believes she is stupid. The girls all find their niche at Bletchley. While they work on breaking the impossible Enigma machine codes, there is a spy in their midst. This book was so well written, the characters so well developed and the storyline clipped along, I enjoyed the read so much. I hated to see the end of the book as I felt like I was saying goodbye to friends I had enjoyed getting to know. Quinn just keeps on getting better with every book. A great read.
