Excellent shirt
This shirt fits perfectly, looks great, and feels great. This is the second one I've ordered. What more can you ask for?

Excellent value. Great slim fit.
5 stars for excellent hard to find fit (for me), well constructed in a quality comfortable fabric, ... for $8! They even matched the pocket to the plaid. Another female recommended Amazon's "Men's Slim" shirts for our body type. Shirts that are big enough for my shoulders and chest usually billow around below, for a bulky, unflattering look. I'm female, 5' 7", slim, broad shoulders to narrow hips (36") in a straight line ... what one friend calls "boy shaped". I've always needed/preferred longer sleeves and longer inseams than most women's clothing in my size. I have other men's shirts in size Small, in cuts that are slim or athletic, so I worried that an XS in this pointedly slim shirt would be too small, but it fits like a glove and is very flattering, not easy to find in a flannel shirt. I paid under $8 for the green plaid in XS on clearance. It fits perfectly and is long, but has no room to shrink. If a Small had been available I'd have tried it, less worried that Amazon's Slim models would have *excessive* fabric around the abdomen. For $8, I'll keep the XS, enjoy a form fitting nice looking flannel, and wash it on cold and hang it to dry to avoid shrinkage. SUBSTANTIAL COZY FLANNEL. Living in Florida, I was actually hoping for a super thin fabric. It's hard to find super thin 100% cotton because warm weather stuff is all synthetic. This flannel actually feels fairly substantial, what I'd consider a perfect single layer for New England winter time, great for cold rooms, but not too warm for heated rooms. Pattern "Matching" seems great for the price point. Usually, I'm a stickler that plaids/stripes be "matched" at the pockets and seams (Woolrich is a great example). Many patterns just look bad if they aren't thoughtfully matched. On this green plaid, the pocket is perfectly matched (almost). The side seams and shoulder panel aren't perfect but they're close enough to not distract the eye or look bad. I find that white or light colors tend to stand out at a distance, so a big mismatch of a wide white stripe will stand out. On this shirt, they've pretty much centered (in front and back) one of the white stripes going down, so the shirt pattern looks well balanced overall, to an OCD eye. Impossible for me to know whether they do this well on every shirt and pattern or not.

Good Value, Almost My Color
I now own three of these shirts, and all perform as consistently as the first, 'test' shirt. They fit properly (as most Amazon Essentials wear does for me). I live in the South so flannel shirts are not an essential staple most of the year--I won't claim to have put these shirts to the test running the Iditarod or anything--but I didn't have any classic plaid flannel and didn't feel like shelling out $45+ for LL Bean. Like white tee shirts, blue jeans, and baseball caps there is a timeless, classic American quality to your standard flannel-plaid long-sleeve button-up shirt. Everything good about the category is good about this specific shirt. They are warm, they're perfect for layering and they get softer and more comfortable the longer you have them (we'll see how this cheap flannel ages but so far, so good). They are not fancy. They are practical, and they will never go out of style. As for the specifics: Amazon Essentials continues to surprise me with the relative quality of fabrics, cuts and construction. Being the house value brand it's surprisingly comparable in quality to more premium AZ brands such as Goodthreads or national brands. I even ended up buying a Good Threads shirt for nearly ten dollars more partly to compare (more on that later). The Goodthreads shirt was of a softer flannel--just noticeable. The slim cut was a little slimmer--whereas the slim-cut in Amazon Essentials feels closer to a regular fit (I didn't try what they labeled as regular fit) and honestly fits me better. The stitching, the buttons, everything else was so close you'd really have to look carefully to notice. That's not to say the Goodthreads shirt is bad--just that the Amazon Essentials ones are very respectable, and for under $20 they're rock-solid. And other than the different patterns of plaid, the three shirts are seemingly identical--great QC. About the patterns: I'm docking one star for the product page itself and the fact that of the RED plaids--the obvious bold/iconic choice, of which every self-respecting wearer of men's clothing ought to own at least one--the first two, most traditional-looking red plaids were SOLD OUT in size medium, and stayed that way over the month or so that I kept coming back to check before finally purchasing the shirt in the weird (but not deal-breaking) red and yellow plaid pictured here. The buffalo and red and black? You can't have one. Other colors of plaid? Sure. I got a blue green and a blue and black and they both look very nice. But the classic, the go-to, the 'original' red plaid flannel? No way. That's part of the reason I purchased the Good Threads one, and I felt like I'd been upsold--we're out of that color in the value-brand, but if you step up to the midrange, we've got plenty on that floor. Whatever. Now Amazon is recommending me blonde mullet wigs and Wayne's World trucker hats. Crazy world we live in.

Soft fabric and great fit
This shirt fits better than I expected it to. I'm 5'10" and about 145lbs with a long & slenser torso, long thin arms, and a thick neck - it's impossible for me to find a shirt that fits my goofy proportions, and I'm constantly having to settle for an ill fit in one aspect or another. I find the length of this shirt to be perfect. I can raise my arms overhead and the tails of the shirt don't go higher than my beltline. The sleeves are a good length as well, and the diameters of each (torso and sleeves) are neither restrictive nor baggy. A good casual, comfortable fit. The neck is rather tight, but only if I button the topmost button, which I never do anyway. (For reference, my neck is about 17"). The fabric feels thick and soft, but not too thick - a good casual outer layer over a tee shirt on a cool fall day. The color is nice and bright but not too vibrant. The stitching looks and feels of good quality, including the buttons and buttonholes. It did shrink slightly on the first wash, I mostly lost some length on the sleeves (bummer) and a little girth in the torso (a win). Overall, for this price, I'm really pleased with the fit and I hope it lasts a while...I'd probably even buy another one or two.

Amazon Essentials Does Not Understand What "Slim Fit" Means
Slim fit, my Aunt Fanny. Whoever makes shirts for Amazon Essentials simply does not grasp what "slim fit" is supposed to mean. It's supposed to mean smaller around in the midsection/tail of the shirt, but every one of their slim fit shirts I've tried is way too loose at the bottom, which makes me look sloppy. I'm pretty broad in the chest and shoulders, but not unusually so, and neither am I weirdly thin in the midsection. I swear whatever factory churns these out cuts them all the same, thinking every American male has a huge gut. Pros: It is a 100% cotton shirt, decently thick, soft, put together well enough, and plenty warm. This is a quality shirt, especially at the price. I just wish it fit! Amazon, please figure out the slim fit thing. I can't be the only one.
