Let down by unbelievable plot and dull dialogue.
At first I couldn't understand why this book got some poor reviews. The pacing and narration was good and the story interesting and nearly half way into the book I lost interest, partly because of the rapidly unbelievable plot and mainly due to Holmes and Watson's dialogue which became flat and predictable. Such a shame as the start had potential. One for the charity shop am afraid.

Another enjoyable Holmes adventure by David Stuart Davies.I heartily recommend this book,a real page turner.I would love to see David's Holmes stories adapted for the screen.

Highly recommended
I don't tend to post many book reviews these days but I thought this deserved a mention. I'm a massive Sherlock Holmes fan and have read a great number of books by different authors, some good, some bad, but the Scroll of the Dead is a great read and one which was very enjoyable from start to finish. You wouldn't mistake the writing style for Conan Doyle himself, but then I have yet to read a book which matches the great man. However, this does not spoil the enjoyment of the book one bit. The language for the most part is well used, and there were many instances where I could imagine Sherlock uttering those very same words. The Kindle edition suffers a bit from poor formatting in places, especially after the half way mark, but again nothing bad enough to spoil the overall experience. If you're looking for your next Holmes fix, then I can highly recommend this.
